Location and surroundings of object
Our house is one of the last houses in a cul-de-sac towards the sea in the small hamlet of Perros, which belongs to Plouhinec in the bay of Audierne. Audierne is situated on Cap Sizun in the Finistère department, in the southwest of Brittany
It has a very mild microclimate, winters are mild and summers are not too hot. They say the area has the most sunshine hours in Brittany. Due to the mild winters, the vegetation is quite Mediterranean, in many gardens grow palms, agaves, mimosa and of course all kinds of hydrangeas. In January and February the camellias bloom in almost every garden and the daffodils open their flowers at the beginning of February. In late spring, the coast of Cap Sizun reveals its full flowering splendour. Rare orchid species bloom along the coastal hiking trail, yellow gorse and countless species of wild flowers bathe the cap in bright colours. In summer, the 'Landes', the extensive heathlands of Cap Sizun, bloom.
Below our house there is a nature reserve with meadows and pastures. The house is about 300 meters away from the Atlantic Ocean as the crow flies, on foot you walk along a dirt road, later a small asphalt road a good five minutes - about 500 meters - to the sea
Although the house is very quietly situated, you can reach all the important facilities for your daily needs by car in just five minutes. In Plouhinec there is a large supermarket with an extensive fish and meat counter, a bakery, pharmacies, an organic shop, two pizza services and even a good veterinary clinic. There's a medical center,a dentist, and an osteopath. In the afternoon the fishing boats arrive at the fishing port of Plouhinec, in Poulgoazec. You can watch the fish auction, but you can also buy the fish directly from the boat for dinner before the auction. It couldn't be fresher.
The tranquil harbour town of Audierne is about four kilometres from Plouhinec. Here you can stroll along the harbour and stop at one of the small fish restaurants or crêperias. Audierne also has a well-stocked fish shop where you can buy live langoustines in the evenings during the season. On Saturdays there is a very nice weekly market in Audierne. Behind Plouhinec in the interior Pont-Croix lies at the tidal river Goyen, which flows later in Audierne into the Atlantic Ocean. Pont-Croix offers besides a very beautiful old town with cobblestone streets and many shopping possibilities also several restaurants, from the Crêperie to the upscale restaurant. A nice weekly market on Thursdays.
If one leaves Plouhinec in direction Plozévet, then one reaches the small harbour Pors Poulhan (those who like to walk a little can also cover the distance on foot). During the summer months, you can sit on the terrace of the Bar les Côtiers right next to the harbour and enjoy a cool cider or a freshly tapped Breton beer with delicious crêpes. Many say they are the best crepes of Cap Sizun. On the way you will pass the excavations of Menez Dregan. A burial mound, dolmens from the Early Stone Age and a grotto from the Palaeolithic are among the sights.
From Plouhinec you can make many interesting excursions. The famous Pointe du Raz with the lighthouse La Vieille is only one of the famous destinations close by. Here, with a little luck, you can see majestic tall ships sailing through the Raz de Sein, the strait between the Île de Sein and the Pointe du Raz. In the Sémaphore the Marine Nationale watches day and night over the shipping traffic around the Cap and just before it the statue of the 'Notre Dame des Naufragés' is supposed to protect the shipwrecked from disaster
Douarnenez with its beautiful museum harbour and important fishing port is only a 20-minute drive away, and the medieval town of Locronan can also be reached via Pont-Croix in about half an hour, or the same distance to Quimper, seat of the Prefecture of Southern Finistère. Here you can admire the beautiful half-timbered houses of the old town and stroll through the pedestrian zones.
Also beautiful is the Route du Vent Solaire, a small road marked with a sun that always runs along the Atlantic Ocean. You will reach Penmarc'h at the other end of Audierne Bay. Here you can climb the many steps in the Phare d'Eckmühl and you will be rewarded with a magnificent view. If you continue you will reach Le Guilvinec with its busy fishing port. In the afternoon you can see the fishing boats coming in from a specially built terrace and buy fresh seafood on the spot.
The very detailed homepage of our holiday house offers you beside trip tips also many useful information to the area.

Dream house, ...and at the feet of the Atlantic Ocean!
Beautiful Gîte with a fantastic view of the Atlantic. The house is elevated above Mesperleuc beach (10 minutes on foot), bright and modern, flooded with light, and equipped with a fabulous kitchen that leaves nothing to be desired. A Breton paradise of well-being with a 24-hour bath in the sunlight/moonlight and the ever-changing play of the ocean! After three weeks, we had to say goodbye to this wonderfully relaxing dependance. We will come back. No question! See you soon!

Mrs. U. Schmitt
Already hopelessly infected with the Brittany virus for many years, one day we finally fulfilled our dream of our own holiday home on the Breton coast. We are Ursula and Ferdinand Schmitt and our three dogs: Two Border Collies and a Dalmatian. For us, the only place of choice from the outset was Cap Sizun. This area is simply special, the beautiful nature, very warm and uncomplicated people, a very special atmosphere and a very high quality of life. In the meantime, we have decided to spend our lives forever in this beautiful corner of the world and have purchased another house. Therefore we can now offer you our beautiful holiday home as a holiday domicile Degemer mat e Breizh! Welcome to Brittany!
