Description

Säby Perstorp lies in a fairytale forest - the area, extremely hilly for Småland, with often steep climbs, winding paths, interspersed here and there with ancient stone walls and always close to lakes, is gnarled, lonelier than other parts of Smaland, enchanted and peculiar, it reminds many of Värmland - simply fabulous!

Blueberries, lingonberries, currants, gooseberries, raspberries, apples and pears grow on about 3000 square metres of land. In autumn, the forest is littered with chanterelles and the porcini mushrooms here called Carl Johann (after the old Swedish king who loved these mushrooms). We have an old maple and a huge pine tree.

The neighbour's house can only be vaguely seen from the back garden (about 150 metres), it is the only one for miles around and: the path is only used by the neighbour (when he is there - this is only his summer house) and us/you ... the peace and quiet is overwhelming! But sometimes it is "disturbed" by the sheep grazing around the house (belonging to Anki from Bråten). Believe us: it's great to have sheep around. With a cautious curiosity, the animals like to come right up to the fence and let you pet them.

Our Säby Perstorp was built in the late 1800s and before us was mostly inhabited on the ground floor only. We have lovingly converted and renovated the attic. Come with us on a tour of the house:

You enter Perstorp through the side entrance with vestibule built in 1949 and stand in a square hallway from which the bathroom with shower and toilet leads off.

Through the door to the left you enter the kitchen-living room, which is equipped with a modern fridge-freezer (new in 2018), microwave (new in 2018), kettle (new in 2018), coffee maker, toaster (new in 2018), cooking machine (a wood-burning cooker - when we took over the house we wanted to throw it out ... how stupid we were: this thing is brilliant, you can easily get the oven up to 300 degrees, pizza from this oven is so much better than from the conventional electric thing, in the transitional period the thick white one heats the whole kitchen, we'll never give it away again!), electric cooker with ceramic hob and convection (new in 2019), both built into an old chimney, table, chairs and bench for 8 people and plenty of complete equipment of pots, pans, plates, cutlery, glasses and whatever else

From the kitchen, there is also the downstairs bedroom, equipped with a double bed (2x90x200), bedside tables, chest of drawers, old kitchen stove but also 2 electric heaters for the transitional period - ideal for older gentlemen or the young whippersnappers who like to be a bit more undisturbed.

Straight ahead is the living room of about 30 m². Here is the dining table with 6-8 chairs, a (sofa) bed (1-2 persons), 2 armchairs, draped directly in front of the most important place ... the large, open fireplace. Oh yes ... we also have a TV with German satellite programme and DVD player (2019), discreetly hidden! In our reading corner we have, among others, Glennkill and Garou, the sheep thrillers by Leonie Swan and, as in Herrafällan, Tomte Tummetott. Since May 2022 we have an air heat pump in the living room.

From the living room you enter the back hallway, which has another door to the kitchen and downstairs bedroom, and via the old entrance to the left you enter the front garden.

Hidden in the kitchen there is our closet staircase to the upper floor. Here, under the two sloping roofs, you will find the Tomtekammer (a bed for 1-2 persons 100x200, a bunk for a child or teenager 80x180) on the left and the Elchkammer (a bed for 1-2 persons 120x200 and a bunk for a child or teenager 80x180) on the other side. In between is the baroque room of about 15 m² with a double bed (2x90x200), bedside tables, sofa and fireplace. All mattresses and duvets are NEW.

And then there is the communal room of about 50 square metres - here is a brand new table football (2019), there is a tournament dartboard and a game table with 6 chairs.

In front of the house is our shed, behind the first door from the path you will find the firewood, also the 6 bikes serviced at the beginning of the season are here. Our yellow canoe lies nearby at Skärsjön. Paddles and life jackets for kids are in the shed.

A little aside, to the right of the house and more or less in the middle of the sheep pasture is the old wash house, later used as a chicken coop for many years. Here you will find our new sauna and relaxation room (due to the construction of the building it is nice and cool near the ground, on hot days we liked to take a break there during the construction phase).

The sauna has benches in 2 heights and a small lounger. For the sworn (hard) sauna-goers there is a high floor. The Harvia 36 (kW!) stove heats the sauna to 100 degrees at half load and the almost 70 kg of stones (originally taken from one of the stone walls in the sheep pasture) last a long time.

*) The next public bathing place you will find in the small village Paddingetorp (Slageryd) in less than 10 km distance, a small idyllic unofficial bathing place in 6,5 km by car or approx. 4,5 km by bike at the Södrasjön (Säby Nabben). There is also a small nature reserve here.
*) 2 supermarkets are in Landsbro (approx. 14 km) and in Ramkvilla (approx. 13 km), for the really big shopping you have to go to Vetlanda (approx. 28 km)

*) Also at Rusken is Moens Gård, a beautiful nature reserve.

Dream vacation in Småland

We had a great time in Perstorp and enjoyed every minute!
The lovingly furnished house is located in a dream location in the middle of nature - in the morning you can see rabbits, on our morning jogging route we encountered a moose and the sheep greeted us when we returned from an excursion.
The house is fully equipped with everything you could need on vacation, there is really nothing missing. And if there are any minor problems, Kolja and Cajus are always there with super-fast support.
We were a family of six in Perstorp. The children (18, 16, 13, and 9 years old) initially complained a bit about the lack of Wi-Fi, but with the diverse offerings in and around the house (game room with darts and table football and the nearby lake), that quickly became secondary and we could spend a lot of time together as a family.
We would have liked to stay longer and will definitely come back!

Super location, great house

We had a wonderful time in Perstorp. In the morning we were greeted by the field hares calmly eating their morning clover, the chirping of the birds, the rustling in the trees - and nothing else! It was heavenly quiet and therefore so restful!
On arrival, not only the children found it exciting to explore the house, especially of course the hidden staircase to the upper floor with the large playroom: the whole house is so cosy and lovingly furnished that we could enjoy rainy days too
Otherwise, we explored the wooded area extensively on foot, visited the slate mine, had lots of fun with the children in the copper mine and, of course, bathed in the nearby lake when the weather was nice
Kolja and Cajus are great landlords who are always helpful, approachable and also very personable, so we were able to enjoy the perfect Swedish holiday (just like in 2018 in their house Herrafällan) and will definitely be back.

Place of longing

We spent a wonderful Bullerbü holiday here with our 4 children, far away from car noise and hustle and bustle. Instead, they spent hours building and playing with moss, sticks, and stones while we adults relaxed in the hammock. The furnishings have been lovingly put together to match an old Swedish holiday home. The contact with the landlords was relaxed and warm. Would love to come back again!

Lonely, quiet and quaint.

We were thrilled with the secluded, peaceful location of this great, quaint-old, and fully equipped Swedish house! We worked through the recommendations in the guest folder bit by bit, but otherwise we were mostly settled and spent a lot of time on-site enjoying the tranquility. A great area where Perstorp is located, with a great swimming lake just around the corner ... and the sheep kept us entertained with their bleating in the evening. Thank you for allowing us to be here.

Best recreation in Smaland's forests

My husband and I spent 2 fantastic weeks in June with our 6-year-old twins in this enchanting, spacious Swedish house in Småland and felt very comfortable. We loved the secluded location in beautiful Swedish nature, the nearby lakes for swimming, the evening campfire and the possibilities to play table football or darts in the house on rainy days and much more. The house and the furnishings radiate a lovely charm. The children felt so comfortable that they didn't want to go home at the end! The friendly contact with the landlords must also be emphasised. We will be happy to come back!

Contact

Mr. C. Mahlke

Mr. C. Mahlke

Cajus has owned a house in Småland since 1985, where he spends many weeks every year and where his children spent a large part of their childhood, and now the grandchildren also come regularly. He has many years of experience in renting out holiday homes. Kolja also spent a lot of time in Sweden with his parents during his childhood holidays and has now been enjoying his holiday time together with his family in a house nearby for almost 15 years and works for a Swedish company. We both love the country, the people, the beautiful nature, the lovely red houses, the peace and closeness to nature. In 2016, we decided to look together for a rental property that, based on all our experiences, would meet our own requirements for a relaxing holiday in southern Sweden. Due to various spam calls, we have deleted our telephone numbers here - please use the contact form to contact us for the first time. Thank you very much.
