Description

Built in 1914, the house has been carefully and lovingly renovated to preserve its original character as much as possible.
Doors and stairs are still in their original condition and invite you to take a tour.

We have therefore already been pleased to receive reviews from guests who particularly appreciate the flair of bygone days in their chosen holiday home.

Our love of detail, without wanting to overload - just a little off the usual "mainstream", find out...

The co-owner's passion for watercolour painting inspired her to design the interior as a gallery. Here you will find her own works as well as paintings by international artists.
Although the house is located in the middle of Germany, it exudes a bit of "Old England" charm - not only for fans of Rosamunde Pilcher.

Squirrels, hedgehogs and butterflies also feel at home here!

If you are looking for a moment of deceleration, you will certainly find it in the GALLERY COTTAGE.

And if you only want to come as a couple, you don't have to share the holiday home with other guests at the same time.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION:

Your 4-star domicile is ideal for 2-5 people.

On approx. 90m² living space you will feel at home.

The spacious living room on the ground floor is furnished with a comfortable couch, 43" flat screen TV and a stereo system as well as a Blue-Ray player.
In the same room is the country-style dining area, with seating for up to 8 people.

The adjoining kitchen is fully equipped:

- Electric cooker (with oven)
- dishwasher
- microwave oven
- Refrigerator (with freezer compartment)
- Coffee maker, toaster, kettle
- Sufficient cutlery and crockery

There is an additional guest toilet in the entrance area.

You reach the upper floor via the lovingly decorated staircase.

Here you will find 2 separate bedrooms and the bathroom.

The village of Oberkotzau

Market town of Oberkotzau (approx. 5500 inhabitants)

The first lords of Oberkotzau were the noble family of the von Kotzau, a knightly dynasty that had great wealth and prestige and played an important role in the area. Their privileges included high court jurisdiction in the village and the imperial sanctuary, a place of refuge for lawbreakers - with the exception of adulterers and murderers - who could await the court's decision there unmolested. It has not been used since 1760 and was officially abolished in 1799. Other trading privileges were the right to hold markets and permission to settle Jews. A field name provides information about a former Jewish burial place. The von Kotzau family were, among other things, bailiffs of Hof and on the Epprechtstein.

Only about 220 m away from your holiday home you will find a well-stocked supermarket. This includes a bakery, which is also open on Sunday mornings. Next to this area is a bus stop; travel directions Hof or Schwarzenbach/Saale. In the summer months from May to September, the Terassenfreibad am Schlosspark promises a refreshing dip at a low price for the whole family.

Lovingly furnished cottage

We spent a week in the Gallery Cottage, and we lacked nothing. The house is cozily furnished and very clean, and the kitchen is very well equipped. The hosts are super nice and always ready to help.

Recommended

The house is top renovated and well-equipped for comfort and living. Everything is tidy, no "legacy issues" from the previous tenant, not even in the kitchen. Heating and hot water are electric. Terrace outside around the house with seating and awning. Location in the village is quiet and good, however currently (2025) there is hardly any dining options (Greek restaurant Athos highly recommended). Bus and train connections are good. Garage space available or parking on the street. The landlords are very friendly, helpful, and not intrusive. We felt very comfortable as guests despite the very frequent rainy weather and can highly recommend the accommodation.

Great time in Oberkotzau

We spent New Year's Eve at Charly and Denise's vacation rental and were completely satisfied. The accommodation was very clean, cozy, and the hosts were exceptionally nice and helpful. Despite a heating issue caused by us, Charlie reacted quickly and resolved everything wonderfully. We can absolutely recommend the accommodation and would be happy to return!

Dear landlord!

We had a wonderful stay at Gallery Cottage. Even though we had two weeks of rain, we had a good time. It was even better that we had the wood stove...
The house was super clean upon arrival and everything we needed was available, including unusual things for vacation rentals, such as parchment paper, dishwasher tabs, dishcloths, spices, etc.
The furnishings are very tasteful with great pictures and beautiful furniture.
It is also convenient that there is a grocery store and bakery just around the corner. By the way, the ice cream parlor in town is also great.

Thank you very much, we can only recommend the cottage!

Great short holiday

Before booking, the price for two people seemed a bit excessive. But when you consider that a simple double room in the local inn costs over 70 euros, it was certainly the better decision to stay here in the cottage.
We had a great rest in this special ambience. And we also found important time for each other again; after a lot of stress.
If we come again, we might bring our two grown-up children with us...

Cozy home

We spent a very cozy week in the cold season. Everything important was taken care of - plus a homely wood stove. The electricity price also remains within reasonable limits given today's energy prices. We even found practical details in the kitchen like baking paper, coffee filters, and dishwasher tabs....not always a given! We would like to come back in the spring (Easter?) Super hosts, thank you :)

Very clean

Have spent nice days in the house. Accommodation very clean. Landlord very nice and helpful; also gives tips for excursions! Everything we need is available in the kitchen! We liked the proximity to the Untreusee very much. Good starting point for cycling tours.
Small drawback that there is no patio door, but this is unimportant as you can easily walk around the corner of the house!

Simply TOP !!

We didn't lack for anything, everything needed for a stay was available in the house. Cozy and comfortable furnishings, high-quality equipment, and everything was super clean and well-maintained. Supermarket and drinks market, bakery and butcher, as well as restaurants, were all within walking distance. In addition, the good location allows trips in every direction. The nice and very friendly landlord also provides regional recommendations and tips... We will come back!!
