Location and surroundings of object

Kastel - Castelvenere The hilltop, from which the view extends to the valley of the river Dragonja, was inhabited already in the before historical time. The archaeological excavations on the slopes clearly indicate the presence of a fortified castle, which, in terms of its location, was of strategic importance. After the Roman conquests, the castle becomes a castrum and is called Castrum Veneris, probably in connection with the temple dedicated to a pagan goddess. According to another interpretation, the toponym refers to Castrum venae, after the line of the hill on which the settlement is located. Near the new settlement, which developed a few hundred meters from the ancient settlement, where you can still see the ruins of the ancient fortress walls, there are some villages such as Plovanija, Kaldanija and others.
There are 5 restaurants, within walking distance, which can offer you specialties of all kinds. Whether they are for a pizza, meat, fish or local specialties such as pasta with asparagus or truffles, they will be served here gastronomically. While shopping, cafes and restaurants are located within 500 to 700 meters, beach trips to the sea are 8 km away. A picturesque sandy beach is about 12 km away. The historic town of Buje is 5 km away.

additional information:

The Mediterranean port Umag is located in the north of the Istria region, not far from the Italian Trieste and the Slovenian capital Ljubljana. The good geographical position and the excellent tourist offer make the romantic Umag one of the most popular holiday destinations in northern Croatia.

Surrounding the holiday villages, which surround the old town, are beautiful beaches and coves. The crystal-clear water and excellent facilities of the beaches are just some of the reasons why over ten beaches of the Umag Riviera are blowing the Blue Flag. Around the family-friendly beaches you will find recreational opportunities as well as exciting and entertaining sports and leisure opportunities.

After an unforgettable day at the beach, you go in the evening in the old town. Narrow romantic lanes lead you through the urban center, which still exudes a medieval charm. On the promenade of the old town and in the streets, all to the central point of the old town, the square Trg. Slobode, inviting taverns, restaurants and taverns. Game dishes with homemade pasta, fish dishes, seafood and of course the famous Istrian truffles are available on the menus.

If you want to end the evening quietly you can take romantic walks through the old town or along the beautiful waterfront promenade. But you can also head into the exciting nightlife of Umag, cultural events, concerts and cozy bars invite you to.

Umag, often referred to as the gateway to Croatia, was listed by National Geographic magazine in 2011 as one of the top 10 summer destinations in the world. Come in and let yourself be mesmerized by the small town where family vacations, entertainment and sports are writ large. Not far from the house is the newly opened "Aquapark" (water park) Istralandia.
Kangera Beach is located 7km from Us, near the town of Savudrija-Salvore, below the tourist resort of the same name, offering various facilities for children and adults. The beach is located in one of the most beautiful bays on the west coast of the Istrian peninsula. Surrounded by many shade trees, this beach is ideal for spending the whole day here.
The beach is covered with gravel, the entrance to the sea flat and thus ideal for families with small children.
In the resort Kanegra is also a nudist campsite and a nudist beach
The special status of the entire Umag-Novigrad region in this undertaking does not necessarily surprise, since this site has always been as predestined for great achievements in wine trade and wine growing. The sun-bathed hills and the extraordinary combination of red and gray soil have been favorable to the grapevine since ancient times; so much so that in the village of Momjan in the hinterland of Buje a new variety has developed through the centuries, the nutmeg of Momjan (Muskat momjanski).

Today, some of the most prominent Croatian winemakers - Kozlovic and Degrassi, Coronica and Kabola, Ravalico and Cattunar, Clai, Veralda, CUI and many others - are working in this small area. All you have to do is choose one or two cellars (or more) on the wine route, check the working hours and start the tour. Specialized guides and maps are available at the Tourist Points and the innkeepers are waiting for you to get to know all stages of their work first-hand.

In any case, do not miss the local varieties Muskat momjanski, the Istrian Malvazija and Teran, although the modern cellars in northwestern Istria lack international varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet sauvignon or Chardonnay.
On the plate you will learn all about the country by which you travel. About the pleasures and smells, about people and their way of life, about history and cultural heritage. The Istrian cuisine is very diverse; Wild asparagus is the secret tip of the chefs in spring. Seafood is offered in summer, and in the autumn you can not miss the truffles with Istrian dishes. In winter, in the Konobe Manestra, cabbage and fried sausage are served. The Croatian cuisine is very varied, and each area has its own tradition.

Family friendly accommodation with hospitality

We spent our summer holiday in Istria this year. The accommodation is located on a large plot with a courtyard driveway, garden terrace, private barbecue house, pool, sports room and sun terrace with outdoor shower. All listed items are in exceptionally good and modern condition. Hospitality is written BIG by Melita and her parents. Any questions that arose were answered quickly and helpfully. The flat itself is spacious with 3 bedrooms, full kitchen, large living room and 2 WC/bathrooms. Everything is of a high technical standard. The pool is excellent and very clean. As a family of three we were able to move around completely freely on the property and of course in our house.
The house is located in a settlement, close to the Slovenian border, which we found to be an optimal location for trips within Istria, Slovenia and even to Trieste.
Thank you again to Melita and family!
