Absolutely thrilled

I have been there for the second time now and I am still very enthusiastic. The beautiful complex is nestled in the hills near Mijas, which does not mean it is off the beaten path. Mijas itself is reachable on foot in 20 minutes - by car, you can reach a well-equipped supermarket in 10 minutes and the sea in 15 minutes.

The historic, fully renovated water mill exudes the charm of Andalusia, which is unparalleled. On the same day, you feel like you have arrived in Spain.

My girlfriend and I had booked the bungalow, which is very clean and has its own terrace. The evenings - with Spanish beer and a view of the city and the sea - are really a highlight.

Of course, the entire complex has Wi-Fi and we were able to use the internet for free.

One must praise the German owners of the complex, who were always there to help us and always had an insider tip at hand.

2 really nice weeks with friends!

We were with 14 people in this fantastically beautiful mill and felt very comfortable from beginning to end. Probably also because of our landlords, who clarified everything imaginable for us and gave us great tips! We miss Andalusia and the magical place and will definitely come back!

How is the weather in Mijas?

Year-round pleasant feel-good climate

The Costa del Sol (the Sunshine Coast), as the name suggests, is one of the sunniest regions in Europe. More than 3,000 hours of sunshine per year and less than 500 l/m² of precipitation are measured here. The climate is subtropical with summer temperatures between 25 and 35 °C. The Sierra de Mijas mountain range protects against cold north winds, and west winds from the Strait of Gibraltar occasionally provide a slight cooling effect. In winter, the mercury rarely drops into single digits. The water temperature on the western Costa del Sol rises to 25 °C in summer – perfect for a beach holiday in Mijas.

The village center of Mijas is one of the so-called Pueblos Blancos, the white villages that are part of the traditional landscape of Andalusia. At over 400 meters above the silvery blue glittering Mediterranean Sea, Mijas Pueblo clings to the mountain. The new districts Mijas Costa and Cala de Mijas are located on the coast near Fuengirola. The town center has preserved its old charm and houses numerous souvenir shops with "authentic" Andalusian knick-knacks. Beaches can be found directly below the town, for example, Playa Malapesquera at Benalmádena and along the ten-kilometer-long beach promenade of Fuengirola. Beach and sand grumps book a holiday with a pool in Mijas for private bathing fun. In the surrounding area, 60 golf courses, 15 marinas, and nine theme and fun parks provide plenty of action.

Excursions into history around Mijas

A hidden hiking trail leads up into the Sierra de Mijas and to the chapel Ermita Virgen de la Pena, which was carved out of the rock in the 17th century by a Carmelite brother. The small sacristy made of natural stone was added in later years. The small hermitage is considered a village sanctuary and is only open one day a year at Easter. A second hermitage is located near the rural district of Osunillas. This one dates back to the 18th century. The museum of Mijas takes you into the history of the Spanish Civil War. There you can see the reconstructed staircase hiding place of civil rights activist Manuel Cortés, who hid in his house from the Franco regime for 30 years.
