Captain Tilly is said to have found refuge in this half-timbered house during the Thirty Years' War. It is the only half-timbered house that survived the city fire of 1640 in Holzminden. On Allersheimer Straße is the old Jewish cemetery with graves from 1824 to 1933. A historical harbor and shipyard facility from 1837 highlights the importance of inland shipping for Holzminden. An unusual way to explore the city is the "Scented City Tour." This tour takes you past 15 scent stations through the old town, where the historical sites and their respective scents are explained. Leading companies in the fragrance and flavor manufacturing are based in Holzminden. The scented walk illustrates this close link between city and corporate culture. The short tour through the city center is barrier-free and takes about 25 minutes. Additional stations are located around the city center.
