Are you still looking for the right holidaymakers for your holiday home or apartment?
The capital of Abruzzo, L'Aquila, is located at over 700 meters altitude. One of the most extraordinary sights here is the Fountain of the 99 Tubes. In the facades of almost every house in L'Aquila, you can see Romanesque influences. The charming Sulmona is a tranquil mountain town. It is situated near the Majella and Abruzzo National Parks and is particularly famous for its confectionery. On the last weekend of July, the Giostra takes place. The locals, dressed in colorful Renaissance costumes, compete against each other on horseback. The largest city in Abruzzo is Pescara. Founded in 1927, the city is located directly by the sea and attracts visitors with its beach promenade, harbor, and many beautiful restaurants – making it the perfect location for your holiday apartment or affordable holiday home. Abruzzo is a region to discover and experience. Everything is possible here: swimming at the beach or in the pool, water sports, skiing, climbing, trekking, horseback riding, tennis, golf - just like hiking holidays: The four national parks offer great hiking and biking trails. 133 km of coastline, ranging from sandy beaches, pebble bays, to rocky shores, can be found along the Adriatic Sea. In Capestrano's resort, divers can even explore a sunken village house by house - unique sights in Italy near your accommodation surrounded by nature. You should also visit the monasteries of the region, such as the Casanova Monastery or the Arabona Monastery.
Around a third of the area in Abruzzo is under nature conservation. The vast Gran Sasso National Park stretches to the north and around the capital, a little further south lies the Maiella National Park, and the untouched Sirente-Velino Regional Park in the west entices with its pristine nature. Perfect for nature lovers! The Gran Sasso consists of two mountain ranges, the rugged Gran Sasso Massif and the Monti della Laga. It boasts a wild landscape, with jagged peaks and steep cliffs. The Corno Grande, the highest peak of the Apennines at 2912 meters, is part of the massif. At Corno Grande, you'll find the southernmost glacier in Europe. The Majella encompasses 86,000 hectares. With Monte Amaro, the Maiella Massif reaches a height of 2795 meters. The slopes are rich in forests and water sources and lush green in summer. The Sirente-Velino Regional Park is formed by two mountain ranges of the same name and is located inland, near your accommodation on the Adriatic coast, offering views of the beautiful nature, for example in Martinsicuro, Alba Adriatica, or Tortoreto.
The region is a dream for ski holidays with 21 ski resorts and a total of 368 km of pistes. Roccaraso and Campo Felice are the best-equipped ski resorts. Abruzzo often has more snow than the northern Italian areas, but fewer tourists. Cross-country skiers will find a fantastic terrain to explore on the Campo Imperatore. Abruzzo holds a special place for hikers and mountain climbers and gentle tourism. Most areas in the national parks and mountains offer a wide selection of marked hiking trails. Tourist offices in the cities provide maps with all routes. Meanwhile, there are also beautiful bike paths along the sea in some coastal towns. A dip in the pool of your private holiday home is perfect for relaxation after a hike. Feel free to bring your dog or pet to your temporary villa - they will love the nature just as much as you do.
Abruzzese cuisine often combines the flavors of the sea and the mountains in one dish ("Mare e Monti"). Above all, the freshness of the products characterizes the regional cuisine. Abruzzo is the kingdom of the Peperoncini. A traditional sauce with tomatoes, bacon, Peperoncino, and Pecorino is prepared – resulting in the incomparable Spaghetti all'Amatriciana, which can be found on the menu in almost every restaurant in this province. Noodles are traditionally handmade and of high quality. One of the regional dishes is "Maccheroni alla Chitarra", made with the so-called guitar wood. Cold cuts, such as "Ventricina" or "Testicoli di mulo", hold a significant place. A beautiful plate of Antipasti with these delicacies can also be prepared in the privacy of your holiday apartment or holiday home in a quiet location with parking space and perhaps even enjoyed by your own pool.
Culture enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy in the center of L'Aquila. Many concerts take place in the city founded in the 13th century. The well-preserved fortress houses the National Museum of Abruzzo. Pescara also offers many events, such as the International Jazz Festival or the Dance Festival. The beautiful Chieti, located on a hill on the Adriatic coast, has an impressive cathedral from the 11th century. The Archaeological State Museum, with its significant collections from prehistoric and early history and Greco-Roman antiquity, is also of interest. Another city worth seeing is Teramo, with its medieval cathedral and ruins from Roman times. The two museums, the Museo Archeologico d'Abruzzo and the "La Civitella" history museum, are particularly interesting for children. Traditional customs and folk heritage are still alive today in the villages. One of these characteristic places is Scanno in the province of Teramo, with its narrow streets, baroque portals on almost every house, and palazzo. The region is rich in tradition and history and is also known for its confectionery.
