Location and surroundings of object

Our house is located in the center of the ancient village of Fabrezan on Place Charles Cros, which is lined with tall lime trees.
Here you can park your car. The garage is filled with wood for the stove. Bicycles can be parked here.
WLAN is available from the Grand Café 200 meters.
2 residential towers from the 12th century belonging to the image of the village, whose core is surrounded by a Platanenallee. The village is situated on the river Orbieu. Restoration measures have led to an unspoiled river landscape, bordered by vineyards and vegetable gardens. The church bells announce moderately every half and full hour.
The village has a small supermarket, a tobacconist with newspapers, postcards, a pharmacy, two bars with warm food, a pizzeria, a recommended restaurant by our guests "Clos de Souquet" and there is another restaurant "Le Caliquot".

additional information:

Fabrezan is embedded in the landscape of the southern Languedoc-Roussillon. The economic region is called Occitania, and the département in which Fabrezan is located is called Aude. Traditionally, various grape varieties are grown here, but now also cereals, olive and fruit trees. New vineyards are also being planted. In some years, sunflowers blossom on huge cultivated areas.
The hilly landscape is also characterised by pine trees, cypresses, shrubs like laurel and rosemary. Broom smells stupefyingly in May on some mountain slopes. When you make your way south through the Corbières to the Pyrenees, limestone cliffs rise up from the landscape again and again, you drive through gorges (by car or bicycle), hiking on marked paths is also possible.
You can take boat trips on the "Canal du Midi" or rent bicycles in Homps or Narbonne and ride along the canal under the canopy of plane trees or pine trees.
Not far from Homps there is the freshwater lake "Lac de Jouarres" if you want to swim or sail in freshwater.
The nearest Mediterranean beaches are those of Gruissan, 30 km away. Many sports are possible there ( diving, surfing, stand-up paddling or just swimming).
With the "petit train jaune", a narrow-gauge railway inaugurated in 1910, visitors can get to know a small part of the Pyrenees during a day trip from Villefranche de Conflent (near Perpignan). You will drive over viaducts and have breathtaking views of Pyrenean valleys.
In Tautavel (on the way to Perpignan), some 450,000-year-old human bone remains were found decades ago. This means that Roussillon is one of the oldest populated areas in Europe. A museum illustrates the life of early man.
The Roman heritage of the region in Narbonne and Carcassonne will also appeal to those interested in history. Narbonne now has the Narbo Via museum. Finds from the Roman era are presented there. Worth seeing!
Cathar castles from the 11th and 12th centuries wait to be visited on airy rocky heights. In good weather, some castles offer a wonderful view as far as the Mediterranean, whose coasts are popular with sun-seekers or water sports enthusiasts (windsurfing, kitesurfing, sailing, diving, etc.).
Those who want to play golf can do so near Carcassonne. The golf course was specifically recommended by a guest.
20th century paintings and sculptures can be found in Cérét, on the northern slopes of the Pyrenees, in the Museum of Modern Art.
In the worthwhile town of Albi there is the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum. It gives an overview of the entire oeuvre of the artist, who by no means only designed posters for the Vaudeville theatres in Paris.
In Béziers, Carcassonne and Avignon, famous summer festivals with theatre, dance, rock-pop and classical music are held in July and August. Order tickets on the internet. All in all, there are many small festivals in the villages during the summer, and attendance is free.
In October and November there are jazz concerts in Perpignan and nearby Conhilac. Check the internet!
Very popular with children is an amusement park with wild animals in Sigean (Réserve africaine).

House with charm

We spent a wonderful vacation as a couple with a child in this special house, which is very centrally located in a pretty place. The house is very well-maintained and clean, lovingly furnished, and offers everything that makes the vacation pleasant. The kitchen is very well equipped, there is plenty of literature and maps of the area, games, music, and movies. The shower on the 1st floor is built-in, so it doesn't need a shower curtain - also very good water pressure. The beds in the bedroom and under the roof are great.

You can either sit in the courtyard by the kitchen or on the rooftop terrace; there is always a shady spot available. Often, a pleasant breeze blows in the area, so there were practically no mosquitoes.

In the village, there is a small supermarket that is well-stocked and offers daily baguettes, croissants, fruit, cheese, sausage, etc. There are also some good restaurants. The accommodation is perfectly suited as a base for various excursions, for example to Carcassonne, Lagrasse, Gruissan, Perpignan, Narbonne. In the summer, there are often festivals and events in the surrounding towns. For example, we attended a great jazz concert in the neighboring town. In 30 minutes, you can drive to a beautiful, fine sandy expansive beach (Mateille Plage near Gruissan), which is also suitable for children, as it slopes gently into the water. There is also a supervised section. There, you can park for free directly at the beach with a car up to 1.90 m in height (as of 2025). Otherwise, there are good hiking opportunities in the Corbières.

The access directly to the house is typically narrow for the village, but there are generous parking options within a 2-minute walk.

The landlords were always reachable, very friendly, and helpful. Thank you once again! We would come back anytime.

Holiday September 2020 in Fabrezan

Arriving at the holiday home in Fabrezan ready for a holiday, we immediately felt at home. Our first impression - the residents are only out of the house for a short time. Very stylishly furnished with all the things for every holiday wish. The photos of the original state of the house give you an idea of how much effort has been put into renovating and designing the house while retaining the historic building fabric. Here one can only say "Chapeau".
The vita and the photos on the website show the holiday home very authentically. The possibilities for recreation, activities in the house with a myriad of books, CD's, games for young and old in not so nice weather is exceptional.
Despite its central location, the house is very quiet. In the evening, you can end the day on the candlelit terrace and gaze at the stars.
The Corbieres with its many vineyards, small villages, valleys with interesting rock formations and flora can be explored very well by bike along the small side roads (hardly any car traffic). The Canal du Midi is a very beautiful place to cycle. The locks for the boats were interesting for us.
We enjoyed swimming in the Mediterranean Sea after a cycling tour along the Canal de la Robine from La Nouvelle to Narbonne.
For hikers, there is a rich offer, e.g. the Cathar castles of Peyrepertuse and Quéribus with views of the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean. Hiking boots are recommended.
The abbey of Sainte-Marie de Lagrasse not far from Fabrezan is worth seeing. We combined the visit with a bath in the river L'Orbieu in Ribaute - beautiful and very good for relaxing.
We would like to give a very big praise to the landlords, who helped us a lot during the somewhat difficult Corona time.
It was a wonderful holiday, once again many thanks to the landlords for their great trust.

This may actually not be told!

Finally, after weeks of anticipation and a 1260 km drive:
La place Charles Gros in Fabrezan.
Unlocking the door, the first look inside the house - WOW!
Luggage in - the first step into the backyard - what tranquility!
Up the stairs, trying to orient ourselves: bathroom, bedroom and music room, entrance hall with desk and books ...
Up further: the cozy living room with its impressive atmosphere. From there, the decisive step for us onto the rooftop terrace: what a view!
Unobstructed and a huge sky as the crowning glory.
All the photos shown do not lie, they are perhaps even surpassed by reality.
The bed: huge, inviting, best mattresses, we slept wonderfully in absolute silence.
The kitchen has everything you need, we cooked almost daily and didn't miss anything.
Double sink in the bathroom, large shower, hairdryer - we have never found such practical and tastefully furnished accommodations in any vacation home.
The house is filled with literature, music, art, picture books, tasteful details and trinkets, with the life and soul of the owners. (Tell me how you live and I'll tell you who you are).
In short: we thank you for this exceptionally beautiful accommodation and the trust of the landlords to let us into their very private environment.
Much has already been said about the surroundings and the country in the reviews, there is hardly anything to add.
But: the call for a return visit is ringing in our ears, there is still much to discover, much to experience.
Fabrezan will see us again, without a doubt!

Pure idyll of the countryside

We stayed twice with our teenagers (14 and 16 years old) in this extremely lovingly and perfectly equipped village house (10/2018 and 07/2019). The coziness and cleanliness of the house, the open-minded village community, and the atmosphere of original France thrilled us every day anew. The landlords had already provided us with many interesting tips in advance and were very sympathetic and reliable contact persons before, during, and after our vacation.
On site, everything is available for daily needs. We had a lot of fun on our excursions to the Mediterranean, the sparsely populated hinterland, and the surrounding cities such as Carcassonne, Narbonne, Toulouse, and Perpignan. Definitely worth a visit is the picturesque Lagrasse and in summer the natural bathing spot on the river Orbieu in Ribault. We also enjoyed the numerous music festivals in the area. The beautiful rooftop terrace invited us to end the day. The perfect place for those looking for relaxation without boredom. We definitely recommend the village house!!!

France - at its best

If you want to meet cultivated Britons, you'll find them here. The area is simply enchanting, a large natural park, crossed by small rivers or riverbeds winding through depending on the weather. Those with ears to hear, will hear birds, cicadas, and what has become rare, the bells of the two village churches, not loud but familiar to me from childhood. Our family, living in Berlin, is grateful for the idyll. However, after two or three days, urbanity is needed. Narbonne, Perpignan, Béziers, and Montpellier, all quickly reached by car, as well as the sea and the fishing village of Gruissan in about half an hour. Actually, one waits for worse weather to make use of the numerous advantages of the accommodation (music in all forms, movies, books, travel literature, TV, and internet), but most of the time one is still outside. In 5 minutes, one is sitting in or in front of the village pub, where the farm workers meet. It's worth stopping by, not for the kitchen but for the atmosphere and the huge plane trees. If you want, you can already have your coffee here in the morning after buying your baguette or croissants at the village store across the street. We keep coming back because we can choose a different France every day, depending on our mood.

Answer from Family U. Funke-Siebert:

Bedingt durch die Unwägbarkeiten des Brexits verkaufen immer mehr britische Familien ihre Häuser auf dem europäischen Festland, also auch in Südfrankreich. Für unsere netten englischen Nachbarn ist und bleibt Frankreich das bevorzugte Urlaubsland, künftig als Mieter von Ferienhäusern oder Hotelzimmern im vielfältigen Süden Frankreichs.

For more than 20 years, my husband and I out in the Rhine-Main area and in the southern Languedoc-Roussillon at home, have the region traveled in all seasons and love the Corbières, the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean beaches. We have many people of different nationalities met and we maintain these contacts. I invested in my professional life with training and study of young people, my husband is an independent city planner and works in his own office. The love of France has in our lives always played a role, initially mediated by weekend trips with friends to the Alsace or to Lorraine, later also to Burgundy and the Cote d'Azur. About your interest in our house in Fabrezan we look forward. Ulrike Funke and Detlef Siebert
