Upper floor newly renovated in spring 2025, each room now has a bathroom with WC

The accommodation consists of 2 houses and offers space for 18 people and more. Due to the very open design and the use of a lot of glass, it is very bright and sunny. In the main house there is a large open kitchen, a large living lounge with king-size dining table, glasshouse with sauna, and galleries with an in-house library. Due to the many terraces and niches, living in this house is a small adventure.

The garden:
The outdoor area offers a lot of lawn and is very nicely structured. You can also retreat or find shade under one of the many trees or bushes. There are a few hammock stands distributed around the property, hammocks are available. Table tennis table including paddles and balls, deck chairs, sun umbrellas, and a grill are available. There is a campfire site where you can make a cozy fire in the evening; please collect wood from the adjacent forest.

Swimming pond:
The pond was renovated in 2018. It was lined with polygonal natural stone slabs and equipped with stone steps and underwater lighting. Its own 11-meter-long stream is now intended to provide clean water. The swimming pond is now much more a pool in the shape of a pond. The shallow water areas for children have remained. The terrace walkway has been almost doubled.

Heating:
The house is heated in the cold months by a wood gasification boiler.
This must be fired by yourself 1-2 times a day. Upon your arrival, it will be explained to you exactly how this works. But don’t worry, it is very simple and there is also a video about it. Additionally, the house and hot water are supplied by a solar system. From spring to autumn, heating with wood is therefore not necessary at all.

Location and surroundings of object

Our accommodation is located on a large property, situated on a south-facing slope between a stream and the edge of the forest with a magnificent view of the Julian Alps. It is an absolutely secluded location which can only be reached via a private forest path. The property has an area of and is completely surrounded by agricultural land and forest. There are no residential properties bordering the property and the nearest road is far away. At an altitude of 750 meters above sea level, you are higher than the cold air lake in the valley, which often forms in autumn, and you therefore have a lot of sun even in foggy weather

The Gailtal which geologically forms the border between Africa and Europe is quite a wide valley surrounded by beautiful mountains. Less known than Tyrol and therefore far less overrun with tourists, the area offers much more, such as numerous lakes with excellent water quality and very pleasant temperature, a varied mountain landscape with very beautifully structured hiking trails in a historically and geographically very interesting area.

Bathing pond: The bathing pond is a mixture of a pool and a natural pond. It is necessary to empty and refill the pond from time to time.
It can happen that I have to empty the pond during your stay. Mostly it is full again the next day.
unfortunately, I can not create a fixed plan because it is strongly weather dependent.

Tourist tax: 1,3 per adult / night

Camping in the garden is no problem.

This is a country house in the middle of nature and therefore exposed to its influence.
Animals of various kinds live here and you will sooner or later make acquaintance with them
It is impossible and also not purposeful to free the house and the environment from these fellow creatures.
Pests like mice, moths etc. we try to keep away as far as possible.

Super winter holiday

Very good price/performance ratio. The house is a bit off the road, very quiet and idyllic. Sufficient space available. Good facilities. Very nice, helpful landlord. Absolutely recommendable!

Top or flop

From Münsterland, the two couples and one single, arrived at the holiday home in the night. The landlord was on site and had prepared everything so that we only had to distribute our bedding from the car to the many sleeping places. When the sun came up in the morning behind the Dobratsch, we rubbed our eyes as we looked out over the property and the surrounding landscape: Simply fantastic! Top: sauna and cooling off in the swimming pond under the starry sky! Top: the many village festivals with good food and handicrafts. In particular, the weaving work of an enchanting lady from Wertschach are real eye-catchers that we couldn't ignore. Top: "Maggie's Checkpoint," the bar of any recklessness. Our single didn't stay alone for long here either. Flop: there is no sushi delivery service. Flop: the nearest taxi rank is 19.5 km away. Flop: we had to give up our Münsterland popular sport, the bacon board game, because of the slope. Two couples returned to Münsterland with heavy hearts - one was missing. So we will be back! Definitely!

Wunderschöne familienfreundliche Anlage

The villa offered sufficient space for 7 children and 10 adults. Except for one room (winter garden), the house is relatively childproof. (Children between 1st and 6th year of life) The property is huge and offers plenty of space to play and frolic. The property is located at the edge of the forest and is surrounded by meadows. At night, you can observe the sky without any disturbing light sources. The pond is knee-deep at the shore and around 115cm deep in the middle. All wishes were quickly fulfilled by the owner. A technical problem solved in the fastest way possible.

The only flaw to highlight is the dishwasher. It is almost too small for that number of people. Some found it cumbersome to bring their own bed linen and towels. However, there are 3 washing machines and 1 dryer.

Wonderful family vacation in Gailtal

In June 2016, we spent a week at the Windvogel holiday home with eight adults and a dog. The holiday was a gift to our father for his birthday, and it was perfect! The house is great! We put our parents in the adjacent house (which also seems to be very new) and the younger generation slept in the main house. The layout was super for us. Even the dog felt right at home! You have the possibility to retreat or sit together with everyone. We became like children again! Table tennis, badminton, cards, cornhole, basketball (...) - everything was available! On a rainy evening, we went to the sauna and then jumped into the swimming pond. We were very lucky with the weather, but even for bad weather, there would have been a wide range of games available to pass the time.
Two of us had their motorcycles and rode some Alpine passes. A very special highlight was a flight over the mountains! Highly recommended!! The scenery is so beautiful!! The mountains, the lakes - breathtaking!!
The equipment of the house is particularly noteworthy. We didn't miss anything! On the contrary, we constantly discovered new things. We were already in holiday/relaxation mode from the moment we arrived, and it lasted throughout the week. The location is unique. The view of the mountains, no neighbors, a huge property, the swimming pond - beautiful!
The landlord was also totally friendly, reliable, and helpful. It was a great holiday in every way!

My husband and I got married in the ruins of the Arnoldstein monastery this August (HIGHLY recommended and only 15 minutes away from the windvogel) and enjoyed our celebration at the windvogel.
I can highly recommend this combination!!
We wanted to celebrate in a private setting, where there is no noise limit and where you can be completely to yourself, which we absolutely achieved!
Our celebration was a garden party. Because decoration is very important to me, I even decorated the forest entrance and almost the entire garden including the house. (Beer benches and chair covers are available for rent upon request) We hired a catering service (Zum Mohren, Bad Bleiberg), which did an excellent job and cooked delicious food. The guests were free to move around everywhere and we only received positive feedback about our wedding celebration. Many said it was the most beautiful wedding they had ever been to. I am happy to send photos upon request, so you can get an idea.
Many of our guests stayed overnight with us, some even in tents. Some party animals even used the sauna late at night.
I was particularly pleased that the wedding didn't suddenly end from one moment to the next, but that we were able to let the celebration come to a great end, as our guests had breakfast with us the next day and continued celebrating :-) My husband and I are very glad we chose this option and can recommend it to anyone who doesn't like celebrating in a restaurant/hotel because it feels impersonal and not as homely as in a "own" garden.

Vicinity of the holiday home: Wunderschöne Kärntner Seen, wie zB Fakkersee, Wörthersee, Weißensee.
Für wanderfreudige gibt es viele Berge.

free time activities: Wandern, Radfahren, schwimmen, skifahren...
Kultutinteressenten kann ich das Stadttheater Klagenfurt weiterempfehlen! Mein Mann und ich haben uns heuer die Operette "Csardasfürstin" angesehen und angehört und waren sehr angetan!!!

shopping facilities: Nötsch bietet einen Riesen Spar und Billa und Villach bietet mehr als man braucht ;-)

Always a pleasure

We were all very satisfied. We would love to come back, as there is something for everyone. Cosy together by the campfire, but also many small spots to be alone. Hiking, searching for mushrooms in the forest, playing table tennis or going swimming, as I said, there is something for everyone.

free time activities: Waldbad, Wandern, Strandbad 8Presseggen), Raften auf der Gail, Sommerrodeln im Nassfeld für uns war genug dabei.

shopping facilities: Mühle mit Bäckerei, Fischerei, Greisler alles vor Ort und mit dem Auto in 5min erreichbar, wem das zu alternativ ist für den gibts natürlich auch Spar und Billa
