Welcome to the Elfenwinkel by the lake.
Morning coffee on the terrace, birdsong, a special silence – and no alarm clock. This is exactly the feeling that awaits you in Gartow in the Wendland.
The holiday home offers 62 m² of space for up to three guests: two cozy bedrooms, a modern bathroom, and an open living area with a pellet stove. Perfect for long, comfortable evenings.
On the covered terrace directly by the house, you can enjoy breakfast in nature or let the evening come to a close. A second covered terrace with an arbor is in the secluded garden and invites you to evening barbecues or quiet retreat.
A large kettle grill is already available for our guests.
Babies and toddlers are warmly welcome — a crib, high chair, and colored pencils are provided. For a fourth person, a sofa bed or travel cot is available on request. The fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, refrigerator with freezer compartment, oven, ceramic hob with extractor hood, microwave, kettle, and coffee machine makes self-catering relaxed.
Wi-Fi, 3 TV sets, and a private parking space under the carport directly at the house are included. The house is non-smoking.
A dog is warmly welcome by arrangement, and three bowls for a four-legged friend are also available. The entire property is discreetly fenced, so that neither children nor dogs could simply disappear.
And the best part: just go through the garden at the back and in two minutes you’re on the dike, right by the lake.
Tennis, mini golf, and a thermal bath are also within walking distance.
Worthwhile events in the region:
From May 14th to 25th, 2026, the annual Kulturelle Landpartie takes place — ten days of art, music, and encounters in the picturesque round villages of the Wendland. At Easter, large traditional Easter bonfires with music and drinks invite people to socialize together.
In June after Pentecost, the traditional marksmen’s festivals follow in Gartow and the surrounding villages, each taking place at different times — three days of music, parades, and heartfelt celebrations right on your doorstep.
The Elfenwinkel by the lake is not an ordinary holiday home. It is the place where you arrive — and don’t ever want to leave.

Gartow is located in the heart of the Wendland, nestled between the Elbe and vast forests, heaths, and meadows — one of the last true havens of peace in northern Germany. The Wendland is not a place to pass through. It is a place to arrive, slow down, and breathe deeply. This is exactly where the Elfenwinkel am See is located.

Lake Gartow is literally behind the house. Simply through the garden, two minutes on the path and you’re already standing on the dike with an open view of the water. No long walk, no searching for a parking spot, no detour. In the morning the birdsong, in the evening the light on the lake — that’s simply part of it here.
Everything you need — within walking distance.
Directly nearby are the Gartow Family Spa with saltwater pool, sauna and outdoor pool, tennis courts, a mini golf course, and a water playground — all easily reachable on foot. For families with children, this combination of nature and leisure activities in such density is truly rare.
Everything on site — no car needed.
What makes Gartow such a pleasant vacation spot: you hardly need a car for daily life and leisure. Two supermarkets, a pharmacy, a health food store, two hairdressers, a gas station, and an auto repair shop are all within easy walking distance. On Fridays, the weekly market also invites you to browse and shop — fresh regional products right on site. Culinarily, you are also well provided for: two restaurants are located directly on the lake — ideal for an evening with a view of the water. On the main street, there is also a Chinese restaurant, a Turkish snack bar, and an ice cream shop. For lunch, there is a very good snack bar by the lake with a changing lunch menu, and in the immediate vicinity there are two more restaurants. Whoever wants to actively enjoy the lake can rent a pedal boat or electric boat at the boat rental, stop by the boathouse for coffee and cake, and use one of the two sandy beaches for swimming. Bicycles can also be rented directly in Gartow — ideal for excursions in the surrounding area. In short: At Elfenwinkel by the lake, you are in the middle of nature and still well provided for.

The Wendland offers more than just beautiful scenery. Around Gartow, you can discover the historic Gartow Castle, the charming wildlife enclosure with red, fallow, and wild boar, the beaver trail by the lake, as well as the Klaus Bahlsen Tower for observing sea eagles.
Those who wish to hike can explore the Nemitzer Heath south of Gartow or choose a section of the 190-kilometer-long Wendland circular trail.
Cyclists can explore the Elbe river meadows on well-developed paths — including the well-known Elbe Cycle Route.
Perfect location between Lüchow, Dannenberg, and Hitzacker. Lüchow and Dannenberg are quickly accessible and invite you to stroll and go on a shopping tour. In addition, everything for daily needs is also available here. The picturesque Hitzacker on the Elbe is worth an excursion, just like the Göhrde with its impressive beech forests. The Hanseatic city of Lüneburg is also reachable within a manageable travel time.
