Description

Hello from Hobstin and welcome to the "Alte Kate"!

The "Alte Kate" is part of an "Instenkate" from 1830. Insten were farm labourers without their own living space. At the time our cottage was built, the region was Danish territory. According to a Danish census from 1835, 35 people lived here in five residential units. On top of each other, with each other, in a jumble. Quite cosy.

Today there are still two residential units under our thatched roof. One - the "Alte Kate" - forms the eastern end house and is an independent unit. This is a wonderful place to switch off and get away from it all. Longer stays are also possible, as there are separate meters for gas, electricity and water.

The holiday home has two parking spaces and a somewhat quirky little hut where bicycles, pushchairs, barbecue etc. can be stored. The garden furniture is also stored there.

The garden area in front of the "Alte Kate" holiday home is available to guests. The property is not fenced in. It is visually enclosed by dense shrubs and bushes.

A small hallway with wardrobe and built-in cupboard is entered via the separate entrance. Hoovers and other cleaning utensils are available in the wall cupboard - just in case you get a cleaning flash ;-)
Warm slippers are also available here.

An intermediate door opens into the hallway. The spacious shower room is to the left and the staircase to the top floor is straight ahead. The kitchen, dining area and living room are open-plan. Only an open framework separates the kitchen and dining area. A tiled stove connects both areas. The stove is in working order. Wood can either be scrounged from the landlord or bought in handy sacks from Edeka.

You won't miss anything in the kitchen. A large fridge-freezer keeps everything nice and fresh and can easily hold several bags of crushed ice and a few portions of ice cream. In addition to plenty of crockery, glasses, cutlery, proper kitchen tools and cookware, there are also useful helpers such as a hand mixer, blender and cocktail shaker. Convection oven, induction hob, dishwasher and washing machine, toaster, kettle and coffee machine go without saying. Cooking, baking, grilling - everything is ready and waiting.

In the dining area opposite, the large beech wood table comfortably seats six people. The sun is a guest in this room almost all day long. Except when the weather is bad.

The adjoining living area has a satellite TV, cosy armchairs and a comfortable sofa bed. Throughout the ground floor, you'll be accompanied by fibre-optic Wi-Fi and cosy underfloor heating. The latter, of course, only in the cooler months of the year.

The two bedrooms are located on the top floor. The small bedroom has two single beds, each with a bedside cabinet. The large bedroom not only accommodates the large double bed. Two cosy armchairs with upholstered footstools also invite you to laze around. Another satellite TV sits enthroned on the chest of drawers. The room is heated with classic radiators. WLAN is also available upstairs.

There is a wallbox for electric cars in front of the guest house on the other side of the property.

Schönwalde has a well-stocked supermarket, a very good country butcher's, a branch of the Sparkasse and Volksbank, a pharmacy and fresh flowers. You can reach the harbour town of Neustadt in 10 minutes. There is a really nice weekly market there twice a week, numerous food outlets, several Lidl and Aldi supermarkets, as well as two Rewe supermarkets and everything else that belongs in a proper seaside town.

Location and surroundings of object

Hobstin - this is where the coastal landscape of the Bay of Lübeck with its famous Baltic Sea beaches and Holstein Switzerland with its rolling hills, magnificent lake landscape and extensive woodlands meet.

Halfway between Lübeck and Fehmarn, leave the A1 motorway at the Neustadt Pelzerhaken exit. After driving six kilometres inland, you will reach Hobstin. Hobstiner Straße is a narrow side road that winds its way between the rolling hills for the rest of the journey. About half a kilometre before you arrive, you can catch your first glimpse of the Hobstin country house, which is still shyly ducking under the hills. Shortly after entering Hobstin, our house reveals itself in all its splendour.

Hobstin belongs to the municipality of Schönwalde am Bungsberg and is home to around 65 people and a few cattle. You are sure to find out who is what during your stay ;-)

The Bungsberg near Schönwalde is also the first excursion destination if you don't want to go straight to the beach. At 168 metres above (current) sea level, this is also the highest elevation in Schleswig-Holstein. The historic Elisabethturm and the Fernmeldeturm can be climbed free of charge. So you can get an initial overview of the area. Parents take note: There is a wonderful forest playground on the Bungsberg. No admission charge. Here you can let your offspring play until they want to go to bed. Refreshments of all kinds are available in the restaurant and café 168 metres above sea level.

If that's not adventure enough for you, head to Hansapark, a 15-minute drive away. With a view of the Baltic Sea, you can enjoy the roller coaster or the freefall tower and let the fish sandwich from Neustadt harbour go through your head again.

For physical and sweat-inducing challenges, the climbing park at Lensterstrand, 25 minutes away by car, offers a whole host of ropes courses and suspension bridges. A kite course in nearby Pelzerhaken is also a special experience. You'll get wet with sweat and the Baltic Sea at the same time. If you prefer something a little more harmless, book a classic surfing course.

Speaking of courses: In our neighbouring village of Vogelsang, 800 metres away, an Icelandic horse farm awaits your kids. Interested? Then gallop, because the courses are quickly fully booked.

A real Viking feeling awaits you at the Wall Museum in Oldenburg, which can be reached in around 25 minutes. In addition to exciting facts about Viking life, there is also an authentic old Viking village. Kids can take on a bearded Viking with a wooden sword and there are plenty of show fights to get your helmet off.

A walk on Graswarder, a narrow strip of land that stretches from Heiligenhafen into the Baltic Sea, is a unique experience. On the north side is the long sandy beach, at the edge of which beautiful old thatched houses fight for their existence against the forces of the Baltic Sea. On the south side is the fascinating bird sanctuary, where around 40 bird species have their breeding grounds. You can be there in about half an hour.

Lübeck! This remarkable Hanseatic city is definitely not to be missed. Take a walk across the medieval old town island, visit the Buddenbrookhaus and the European Hanseatic Museum, where you can experience a historical excursion into the cradle of the EU. On the way back, it's worth making a detour to the picturesque fishing village of Gothmund, which still slumbers on the River Trave as it did over 500 years ago. The village can only be explored on foot. Fortunately, there is no road through it.

On the other side of the Bungsberg, you are greeted by the lake landscape of Holstein Switzerland. Eutin with its famous castle and castle park above Lake Eutin. Plön with the romantic Prinzeninsel or Malente and the famous Immenhof. None of these places are more than a 30-minute drive away.
You need to calculate around 35 minutes to reach the sophisticated Panker estate. The proud estate has belonged to the blue bloods of the House of Hesse-Kassel since 1739. Magnificent Trakehner horses captivate the eye almost longer than the stunning manor house. In the old stables and farm buildings, cosy little design shops will tempt your wallet. Furniture, art, home accessories, cosmetics and books - but by no means off the peg and definitely not Baltic folklore.

And then there are the beaches. Your hosts will be happy to take you to the natural beach near Brodau. A 12-minute drive will take you there. Anyone who drives longer has either travelled too far or blocked the traffic. But Scharbeutz, Haffkrug, Sierksdorf and Grömitz are also nearby and can be reached in 15 to 25 minutes.

Hobstin! What are you waiting for?

Mr. J. Tippenhauer

Hi, my name is Jens. Together with my partner Raimund, we have fulfilled a long-cherished dream with Landhaus Hobstin: To get out of Berlin and into the countryside. Fresh air, the Baltic Sea just around the corner, friendly neighbours - and an unforgettable break for our holiday guests. Our main job is advertising, primarily on the radio, in streaming and on a number of online channels. That's why holiday rentals are our private passion. For me personally, it's always a relief when guests feel at home here with us - and without seasonal surcharges. Having lived in big cities for a good three decades myself, I know only too well how important it is to have holidays and accommodation in harmony. That's why I like to chat to our guests, give tips for excursions, shopping or eating out and let myself be inspired by their experiences. But don't worry: if you'd rather not see me, you won't see me ;-)
