Dear holidaymakers, if I could make a dot on a map of Sweden showing where I like to stay most, I would make that dot in Mariannelund. The little village known from Michel from Lönneberga and the surrounding area have a lot to offer. In just a few minutes by car, you can reach the filming location of the Michel films and feel a bit like you're back in your childhood when you visit. I feel the same way about Bullerbü, which is also in the neighbourhood. Mariannelund is rightly called "En Filmbyn" and is home to the Filmbyn Smaland Museum, where you can see the original kitchen from the Pippi Longstocking films, among other things. In the Karamellkokeri you can watch the production of special sweets with your own eyes. There, the calories are already applauding in the entrance. The nearby village of Vimmerby is the site of Astrid Lindgrens Värld, Sweden's largest theme park. Here you can see everything about Michel, Pippi, Ronja the Robber's Daughter and Karlson from the Roof. The village is also home to Astrid Lindgren's childhood home and the last resting place of the famous author. In rainy weather, the Kallas "Tobehalle" is a good way to keep the children entertained. Mariannelund is the starting point for many excursions. The Norra Kvill National Park is about 30 minutes away and invites you to go hiking. Jönköping is a beautiful town on the southern tip of Lake Vättern and is just as easy to reach as the town of Västervik, which is called the "Pearl of the Baltic Sea". Gothenburg and Stockholm (the most beautiful city in the world) are about three hours by car, which are absolutely worthwhile. To the glass kingdom with its numerous manufactories, e.g. Kosta Boda, is a little shorter. There are several moose parks in the region. You can experience a lot in Mariannelund and the surrounding area. Nevertheless, a holiday here will be very relaxing and a good balance to the stressful everyday life at home. But there is one thing I am not so sure about: do trolls, elves and fairies really live in the nearby forest, as my children claim? Please find out and tell me....
