Step into history at this 18th-century former hunting lodge, nestled within a wooded park just 2.5 km from Valognes, often called the Versailles of Normandy. Surrounded by ancient trees, a private driveway, and a large walled courtyard, this classic vacation home offers complete privacy, a southwest-facing terrace, and outdoor furniture for relaxing or enjoying a barbecue. Inside, the home features a warm, traditionally decorated interior, a foosball table in the basement, and a living room with TV, DVD player, and board games-perfect for cozy evenings or rainy days. Located on the Cotentin Peninsula, it's an ideal base for exploring Normandy's rich history and coastline. Visit the D-Day beaches (18 km) and the Airborne Museum in Sainte-Mère-Église (20 km), where the story of John Steele is commemorated. The seaside resort of Barneville-Carteret offers beach days and ferries to Jersey and Guernsey. Whether you're enjoying the peaceful grounds or diving into Normandy's past, this lodge offers a unique and atmospheric escape.

The mattresses are very bad. You sink right through. Because of the poor sleeping position, I now have lumbago. The bed in the hallway is exactly like a hanging man; you sink all the way through. 7 days of poor sleep and in the morning I couldn't get out of bed because of the bad mattress. The domain is nice. What I also miss is a chair to rest as a woman without having to lie down in bed upstairs. Now, for a bit of rest and my back, I have to go to bed at 9 PM while my husband sits alone downstairs. Let alone if you have a child with you.

Beautiful, atmospheric 18th C house in a lovely tranquil rural setting in a beautiful part of Normandy, with all mod cons and overall good value. Be aware however that there are optional hidden costs e.g. for heating, wood for burning and bed linen (we brought our own), if required, and you need to bring your own towels (you pay the landlady directly for those costs at the end of your stay). The French landlady is very nice - French is the only language spoken (not a problem for us, but non French speakers should bear that in mind). There is so much to see & do in the area, even in mid winter, and we had a lovely stay with our dog (keep dogs under control as there are hares and deer in the area). The booking process was however quite confusing, as the property rental appears to be managed by 2 booking agencies, Holidu and Belvilla, so you get lots of confusing emails from both and in addition to the aforementioned hidden costs there is also a very unclear so called 'optional fee' of €60 for 'utilities & cleaning' which is not actually optional at all as you don't get your booking voucher (needed to confirm the booking) from the online booking agency until you pay it, and it's not included in the price shown on the rental advert. All in all we had a wonderful stay and loved the place and hope to return, but the booking agents really need to get their act together and decide who is managing this property, Holidu or Belvilla, and be a bit more transparent at advertising stage about the actual cost and what it does and does not include. So 5 stars out of 5 for the house and actual holiday experience, but 3 for the booking experience.

The location is great. Completely alone in nature. The owner lives about 150m away. Every morning walking your dog without encountering anyone. Blissful. Deer everywhere in the morning. What disappointed us is the lack of comfort. You sit on hard wooden chairs in the kitchen. There is no couch to relax on. There are old chairs that have seen better days. The fireplace works only halfway. You have to open a window to avoid the smoke. If you want to keep the heating on at night, it costs you €10 extra/day. We were there on New Year's, so we went ahead and did that. To avoid complaining too much, I think the price/quality is fine.
Blessed
the house is large and felt quite cool, heating was available at 10 euros per day and with the size of the property I do not feel that it would make much of a difference. we could also but logs for 10 euros per day - I feel these costs must be factored in when costing your holiday. We needed to leave early and attempted to contact the caretaker/owner with details and feedback. I tried numerous ways to contact telephone, message and email but received no response. didn't help that the caretaker/owner could not speak English and my french is relatively simplistic, however I did make the efforts to use translate app on my phone for conversation and communication. when we left it did feel unsettled because we had no reply from our communication attempts.
