In the middle of the magnificent valleys of the 'Périgord Vert', near to La Coquille, lies the Castle of Mavaleix (Château de Mavaleix), built in the 13th century. The domain spreads over 60 hectares with its beautiful forests, gardens, small lakes, meadows, fields and rivers. It is the ideal environment for those that wish to relax, be at one with nature and enjoy the quality of the lifestyle offered by the French countryside.
As soon as you enter, the medieval castle will transport you back to the time of knights and lords, adventures and romance. On exploration of the beautiful greenery of the park, with its centuries old trees, you will also discover the castles large vegetable garden, the swimming pool, along with a boules pitch and tennis court.
The castle of Mavaleix is the ideal place for an overnight stay, to enjoy a gastronomic meal, to hold a buisiness meeting or seminar, to celebrate a marriage or other festivity, all in a beautiful environment.It is the place for all those that appreciate that special 'attention to detail'.
History:
In the Middle Ages the castle of Mavaleix was a fortress, built to protect the forges that were along the lenght of the small river 'La Valouze', against invasion from the occupying neighbours. The forges were vital as they produced weapons, instruments, keys and locks necessary for the nobility. The castle was, at the same time, the residence of certain "Master Ironsmith" who often acquired a noble title.
One of these illustrious residents was Nicolas-Emile Grenouillet of Mavaleix. This Master of the Forge, well liked within his entourage, was the mayor of the community of Chalais for several years. His imposing tomb, dating of the end of the 19th century, can be found hidden in the woods of the castle. This monument can be still be visited today, although his remains have been transferred to the cemetery of Chalais where one can admire a copy of his tomb.

Castle and surroundings are authentic but the plumbing is rather meager 10 personen.nieuwe materials are not very durable, fairly inexpensive choice, still some work to winkelErg beautiful garden and surroundings but what if one remote culture in Perigord Noir (around Sarlat) want to visit

Pictures on the site were lovely, unfortunately it was in reality a little less beautiful. It is an old building and the cottage had some flaws and needed some maintenance. The neighbors we heard that the people who had complained to us had been in the cottage on the same flaws as we do, but there was nothing to gedaan.Er enough sleeping space for 9 people, and the beds are wonderful !! but a table model fridge we could with four men from the feet but nine people will be a little on the small side. On arrival we had to find someone who could help because no one was in the restaurant and it was not clear where you had to sign up. The owners are very nice and helpful. For children this is a great place with a fenced swimming pool, trampoline, swings and tennis and boules. There was a relaxed atmosphere and the children had quickly made friends and have great can do their thing on the landgoed.Het restaurant was nice and the sushi was delicious! Great place for kids to have a relaxing holiday.

Delightful, spacious cottage on spacious grounds of a large French country house. Kids had a wonderful, large garden at their disposal to play. Pool was not completely clean, but well protected.

Magnificent estate with very friendly operators who stabbing their soul into this project. The atmosphere was great! We have the cottage in question with two families with five children (2 to 6 years). We found there everything necessary, though the fridge would be a bit bigger. Since it was beautiful weather, we especially enjoyed the beautiful garden and the (fortunately fenced) pool. Also attacked the toys (swing, seesaw, trampoline) popular with the children, if those might be refreshed can agree. When the children were in bed, we could enjoy the hotel's kitchen from the terrace you have a view of the cottage and baby monitors reach far enough. For us that was really enjoying feet under the table, wine there, great food and chat ... An experience you little vacation can find!

The start of our holiday could not have a better start than at the chateau of Kees and Letty Crown, extremely pleasant surroundings and very good restaurant. Truly the ultimate holiday experience has given us!
