Location and surroundings of object
The Uckermark in north-eastern Brandenburg is one of the most beautiful regions in Germany, a hilly region rich in forests and lakes that stretches between the Havel and Oder rivers on both sides of the Uckertal valley from northern Brandenburg to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, much of it under nature conservation.
The Ucker lowlands are of great regional importance as a breeding and feeding habitat for many bird species. In addition, the Ucker with its large catchment area is important as a habitat and especially as a migration area for the otter. The Unteruckersee is designated as a landscape conservation area. The large reed marsh between the upper and lower lakes forms the most valuable areas of the lowland along with the lower lake. In addition to their importance for species and biotic communities, the reedbed areas are central axes of the biotope network system in the Prenzlau region.
A very special experience is the crane migration in autumn. The magnificent large birds gather temporarily near the house, their trumpeting can still be heard in the distance. Foxes, deer, hares, weasels and pheasants are also not uncommon. Owls and bats can be seen at night.
Proportion of protected areas in % of total landscape area, as of 2003: FFH areas 7.6 %, SPA areas 17.5 %, NSG areas 6.2 %, sonst. Other protected areas 6.0 %, Effective share of protected areas 18.7 %
