The cuisine is based on a creative mix of Spanish, Mediterranean, and local Catalan culinary art. The gastronomy scene ranges from simple fish and tapas bars to star- and spoon-crowned top restaurants such as Can Bosch and Rincón de Diego. Traditional dishes are based on fish, seafood, and rice. Try the black rice with squid (Arroz negro a la cazuela). The rice pot consists of squid, sea eel, garlic, oil, tomatoes and onions, as well as steamed mussels. The black color comes from the squid ink. Equally tasty is the Zarzuela, a fish stew with hake (merluza) with tomatoes, mussels, prawns, and garlic. Among the alcoholic beverages, besides the wine already mentioned, the cremat is noteworthy. It consists of rum with sugar, coffee beans, lemon, and cinnamon bark. The cremat comes from the sailors and is drunk hot.
