Description

Lou Coucaye is a three bedrommed gite in a small hamlet in the heart of the Allier Valley in the Haute Loire district of the Massif Central mountains. The gite looks out west over the valley. It comprises a living room with partly separate kitchen, and a stone terrace which offers both sun and shade for most of the day

Location and surroundings of object

St Ilpize is situated in the heart of a classified Natural Heritage Area. Footpaths and tracks are immediately accessible from the gite, and it is quite possible to spend a very enjoyable week without needing to use the car - except perhaps for shopping. The area is rich in beautiful scenery, but also, within a radius of 15 miles, a numer of monuments including churches, cloisters, castles, small towns, old windmills, an ancient mine and even (on a hilltop) a new windfarm. St Ilpize is a small village on the banks of the Allier. The gite is in a hamlet of about 20 iunhabitants just a mile from the village and its ruined mediaeval castle. There is no through road passing through the hamlet, so traffic is very limited.
