The studio lies on the third floor of a four-storey building that is well cared for and looked after by a skilled gardener. Two lifts are at your disposal. The southern front of the studio shows to the sea, it consists of huge glass doors that lead to the terrace of 6m2. You can take your meals on the terrace and/or sleep there - if you feel like it. (I do, all year!) As it rains so little, this should be of no risk - and then, the terrace has a roof, too. The floor in the entrance and in the studio itself consists of marble. The bathroom (shower, bathtub, toilet, bidet) and the American kitchen have mediterranian tiles, the ceilings have been styled accordingly. If you want to, you can alter the American kitchen into a traditional one by separating it from the saloon with very few movements. Most people prefer it the American way, though. There are two cosy sleeping sofas you can choose from. Very easily they can be transformed into beds 200x140. Of course you can leave them as beds, too.

EL PORTIL lies on the Southern coast, 60 km from Portugal, directly at the Costa de la Luz in Andalusia. The nearest towns are Punta Umbria (12km) and Huelva (20 km). Within 5 minutes, you will be on the 10 km long sandy beach, in one minute you can reach the supermarket, in three minutes the nearest restaurant, really good and not expensive: Restaurante As de Oro. The place has a pool which is only open in the main season, however. During the other months, it is really quiet during the week, and it sounds realistic to have this long beach almost for yourself... Only at the weekends some Spanish people may join you.

El Portil only exists since the beginning of the seventies. It is frequented almost exclusively by Spanish people who are very nice and don't like to show off. During July and August it is an IN-spot for the Spanish people. In the winter it has a climate comparable to the Canary Islands, only in summer it is much hotter. It has a sandy beach of incredibly 10 km length - and you will find only individual tourists there. This makes this spot unique all over Europe. The Spanish Government looks after this to keep it unique: No hotels will be allowed in this region!

CLIMATE The climate in the winter is similar to the climate of the Canary Islands, only during the summer it is much hotter. According to the official statistics, you have 300 days of sun in El Portil annually, 3000 hours of sunshine, 185 days on which you can easily swim (many people do all year round!) as well as a yearly average temperature of 19° - which to me sounds rather little, as, even on the coldest days of the year, at noon you will have at least 18°. Although within 36 years we've never needed a heater, we now actually bought two of them - since many people keep asking if there were heaters, "just in case"... PEOPLE People in this region are friendly and fair. (Not neccessarily so in Sevilla, though!) In El Portil, we have never ever been cheated by anybody, so far. Being a woman, you can walk the beach at night for hours without being bothered. FOR GOLFERS At only 1 km distance there is a newly opened golf court in Nuevo Portil with 18 holes. Many more similar courts are to be found near this area. SIGHTS YOU SHOULD NOT MISS In El Portil itself you have a sweet water biotope with ponds. You can take endless walks along the beach, to a yacht harbour or many tiny little villages, yet untouched by tourism. The pine woods invite you to breathe in their nice, characteristic scent. In Punta Umbria (12km) you can walk on a very, very long mole, first of rocks, but then it ends up as mussle shells. Most impressing! There is a natural parc at 100km, the so-called Parque Dunana. Sevilla(100km) is a must! Historical buildings, architecture, Arab influence - DO read what your guide offers you...
