The “Red Baron” holiday apartment is an end-of-terrace house in an attractive development dating from the 1920s. Designed as a holiday let, it has its own front door and a surface area of around 80 m² over two storeys. The division of the apartment into living and sleeping areas enables guests to use all the rooms to the full at any time. The ground floor, in addition to a porch and hallway, boasts a 20 m² living room and generously sized kitchen with a modern cooker and a large dining area. A staircase leads to the upper floor, with a bathroom (shower, WC), one bedroom with a double bed and access to the baby/small child’s room* and another bedroom with two single beds. All the rooms are decorated in a stylish, modern way to make you feel at home.
Families are welcome, and the “Red Baron” is fully equipped for babies and children, with facilities including a cot, changing table, baby bath, highchair and toddler cutlery. All the plug sockets are protected, and there is a stair gate at the top of the stairs. A baby monitor is also available. For the benefit of our young guests, the apartment is strictly non-smoking and is not suitable for pets.

Manfred-von-Richthofen-Straße starts at Platz der Luftbrücke in front of Tempelhof Airport, where the Airlift Memorial commemorates the provision of the city from the air by the Western Allies during the Berlin Blockade of 1948-9. The underground station of the same name is also here, on line No 6, which crosses the city centre in a north-south direction. It is only four stops to the Stadtmitte (city centre) station (Friedrichstraße/Gendarmenmarkt).
This end of Manfred-von-Richthofen-Straße is packed with shops, cafes and restaurants. To the north of the Platz der Luftbrücke is Kreuzberg with the Viktoriapark. Its most important sight is the National Memorial at the top of the hill, offering a wonderful view of Berlin. A little further north is the famous Bergmannstraße, perfect for strolling and sampling its many cafes, restaurants and small shops, especially antique and bric-a-brac stores. Halfway along is one of Berlin’s last remaining market halls, the Marheinekehalle.
A few minutes to the west is the St Joseph Hospital, with its well-known modern paediatric clinic. Behind the hospital is the Berlin Südkreuz station, the second largest station in Berlin, from which trains whisk you to the Potsdamer Platz and the Brandenburg Gate in just ten minutes.

The apartment is located in the Garden City of Neu-Tempelhof, close to the city centre. The planning for this Garden City began even before the First World War, with the aim of eschewing old-fashioned, cramped, unhealthy tenement blocks in favour of an area bathed in light, fresh air and sunshine. Tempelhofer Feld, a former military training ground for the Prussian army, the last big area of land in the city which had not yet been built upon, was the obvious choice for this new concept in town planning, imported from England, because of its good transport links and central location. The construction work lasted from 1920 until 1931 and, still today, it is a particularly attractive residential area with a variety of land uses. The sweeping streets with their squares and the wide range of architecture combine to create a diverse urban landscape.
Many of the streets in Neu-Tempelhof are named after First World War flying aces, including the Manfred-von-Richthofen-Straße. The famous nickname of Manfred-Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen was “The Red Baron” as he always flew a red plane.
