We were very satisfied with the beautiful holiday apartment. We particularly liked the quiet location of the apartment outside the villages, the large outdoor area with various seating options around the house, and of course the sandy beach that is quickly reachable on foot, which you almost have to yourself and where you even find loungers belonging to the holiday apartment. For shopping and restaurant visits, a car was required, which is obvious given the great secluded location of the apartment. We had an all-around great vacation.

We were here for three weeks at the end of August. It was dreamy. Super nice landlords. The senior played us a few beautiful songs on the harmonica. A really nice, clean apartment where we lacked nothing. We really enjoyed the peace and the beautiful private beach. It was especially great for us that we didn't have to drive to the beach, but just put on our swim trunks, threw a towel over our shoulder, took a book in hand, and that was it. We would love to come back.

A special preparation method, which the author of these lines has only encountered in Greece so far, is "cooked in oil" – delicious, but quickly turns into hip gold. Wine drinkers will also get their money's worth. More than 7,000 hectares are under vines in Chalkidikí. The dry wines are hardly available outside Greece. However, it is worth trying them. Sights on the Sithonia Peninsula

Even though the mountains, cliffs, and vast sea are the main reasons for a holiday in Vourvourou or a trip to the surrounding area, some cultural treasures of the region can be discovered. The Monastery of John the Baptist is located about two kilometers north of Metamorphosis at the northwestern transition to the mainland. The name of the village refers to the Transfiguration of Christ. On the way home, it is worth stopping at the Chrysokamaro Castle north of Vourvourou. The ruins are located on a hill with a fantastic view. The remains of the walls date back to the 14th century. At the southwestern tip of the peninsula is the village of Toroni. There you will find the ruins of a Byzantine castle and a basilica. Once, Toroni was an important city, as evidenced by the extensive complex that stretches from the harbor to the top of the hill.

How do I come to Vourvourou?

Traveling to the Sithonia Peninsula via Thessaloniki

Vourvourou is a small village on the northeast coast of the Sithonia Peninsula, the middle "finger" of Chalkidiki. About ten kilometers to the north is Agios Nikolaos. Since public transport is virtually non-existent, you should reserve a rental car at the airport.
