Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte's brother, Luciano Bonaparte, came to Cattolica in 1823, preferring it to the already fashionable seaside resort Rimini. From the 16th century is the Pilgrims' Hospital (Ospitale dei Pellegrini), which became a barracks around 1800. The building houses a museum of regional history with finds from two millennia, boat models, and illustrations of the harbor's history. Next to it is the Oratory of Santa Croce. The church was built between the late 15th and early 16th centuries. The main church, Chiesa di Sant’Apollinare, dates back to between 1200 and 1300 and was rebuilt in 1782. Numerous accommodations await to welcome you. Your relaxing holidays in an idyllic landscape full of serenity await you.
Long sandy beaches stretch for many kilometers along the coast, from Riccione to Cattolica. Perfect for water sports enthusiasts! The beach slopes gently into the Adriatic Sea, making it suitable for children. The Altamarea beach section welcomes you and your four-legged family members - perfect for a holiday with your dog in Cattolica. From the small harbor, where sailboats, motorboats, and fishing boats are moored, you can take excursions on the Adriatic Sea. An exciting outing will take you into the underground passages of the city, which were built between the 16th and 19th centuries. There are passages and halls with cross vaults, small niches, and the so-called Paparoni Cave. Back on the surface, the Le Navi seawater aquarium invites you to discover the world of water dwellers. In four themed areas and more than 100 tanks, marine life from the oceans of the world is presented. The cultural program offers various festivities throughout the year, with the Stella Maris Festival and its fisherman's ship procession being the most important. During the Pink Night Summer (Notte Rosa), all the city's hotels, restaurants, and bars decorate everything in shades of pink, rose, and purple. On rainy days, you can visit one of the indoor swimming pools or the Oliveriano Archaeological Museum together. Many attractions and sights await you not too far from your holiday accommodation.
The cuisine of Emilia-Romagna is probably one of the most famous regional cuisines in Italy. Some of the basic ingredients are symbolic of Italian cuisine as a whole: Parma ham, balsamic vinegar from Modena, the famous Bolognese sauce from Bologna, Parmesan cheese, and Lambrusco. On the Adriatic coast, fish dishes are very popular. Traditional fishermen still reside here. A local culinary specialty is the Bizulà, a bread doughnut made from flour, beer yeast, water, and salt. The fishermen used to carry the donut-shaped rings on a rope onto the boats. Out at sea, all that was needed were Bizulà, wine, and olive oil. The second local specialty is Miacetto, a yeast-free Christmas cake with dried fruits, lemon and orange zest, honey, and Cruschello, a special type of flour. In the evening, enjoy a glass of Lambrusco on the promenade or in the square. If you think of the headache wine from school days, try the fine wines from To-Wineries like Chiarli or Cantina della Volta.
