The village is located in one of the most beautiful hiking areas in the green heart of Germany, surrounded by the Ellenbogen (Rhön) (814 m), the Weidberg (725 m) and the Staufelsberg (649 m). Centrally located, our 1222-year-old village is a good starting point for hikes and excursions. Whether on "Schusters Rappen" on the well-signposted and widely ramified hiking trails, we have the right thing for everyone. Discover and experience the Rhön in the "border triangle" of Thuringia, Bavaria and Hesse from its most beautiful side, with many interesting excursion destinations for young and old. Surrounded by mountains in three directions, you can look down on the village at the upper end of the Weid valley. The Weid stream, which flows through Oberweid and Unterweid on its way to the Ulster, gave the two villages their names.
