Heating is charged extra - but is fine

Location: The holiday home is located on the outskirts of the town of Ilmenau, directly on the Thuringian Forest. There are numerous hiking trails that start right outside the door. The Thuringian Rennsteig Shuttle is only a 5-minute walk from the accommodation and the hourly bus is only 7 minutes away. Shopping facilities are plentiful with Netto barely 4 min away or Kaufland or Nahkauf in the town centre. Holiday home: The house is very clean and spacious. Only the kitchen is probably a bit too small for more than two people. However, the large main room with bed and sitting area offers space for many guests. The equipment leaves nothing to be desired. Microwave, cooker, oven, kettle, coffee maker, TV, washing machine on request. The energy costs, which are charged additionally, can be very individual. I myself saved a lot on energy, as I was travelling during the day anyway and the weather was very mild. I got back the flat rate I had paid beforehand without any problems after deducting my consumption. The host: Horst takes touching care of his guests. He answers questions or suggestions very quickly, gives tips for hiking trips and provides an insight into Thuringian history. Although I enjoyed my rest very much, the conversations with Horst (and especially the beer at the barbecue on a starry night) were always very good for me. I can only warmly recommend the accommodation, the host and the region to everyone.

simply beautiful

The cottage is exclusively cosy, I felt like I was in a fairy tale or an old story about the forest hunter. The accommodation is very diligently cleaned - I could not find any dust anywhere (even on purpose). I was also pleased with the variability and variety of kitchen gadgets and utensils. Mr Horst is very nice, friendly and polite. Next time I stay in Ilmenau, I will first of all try to book again this great cottage of the wonderful Mr. Horsts.

A good choice

We were very satisfied. Everything was clean and tidy. The beds were very comfortable, Horst provided us with a safe place for our bikes and was also very flexible in other ways which helped us a lot. We would check in again at any time.

Felt at home right away

The cottage is idyllically located in a wonderful garden, just on the edge of the city centre in a quiet settlement of classic villas just before the edge of the forest - the ideal starting point for walks and to explore the city. The description of the cottage was very precise and accurate, it is really lovingly furnished and charmingly out of time. Horst has been a warm and helpful host to us. We felt at home right away and wanted for nothing. We will gladly come back again!

Great place

Near to a market and the city center. The main room is very spacious, quiet and has a beautiful view. The kitchen is small but very functional. The owner is very kind, attentive, and concerned about the guest's well-being.

Spent a few nice days

The flat is very cosy and clean. Although the kitchen is not big, it is great to cook in (at least for 2 people), there is even an induction cooker. The kitchen equipment also has all the essentials. The view of the very beautiful garden is great and the location was perfect for us without a car, as the train station towards Rennsteig is only a 3-minute walk away. But you can also explore the Thuringian Forest directly from the accommodation. Horst was very nice and helpful. A clear recommendation!

very, very satisfied

The flat was really super clean and Mr Kiessling was incredibly nice and accommodating. Every afternoon I could find the local newspaper in front of the flat. The ebike that Mr. Kießling rents out is also highly recommended especially because the area is so beautiful and very suitable for longer bike tours. I would definitely stay there again if I were to come to the area again. The communication was also very good and Mr Kießling was always available.

The price is right and it is just what I need

This was my second time staying at Horst's place, both were for 2 weeks. I will be staying again for all my future trips to Ilmenau. The price is right and it is just what I need. I like there is a kitchenette for cooking food, heated floors, a nice view, the ability to do laundry, and the proximity of the cottage to a grocery store and the rest of town. Horst is always fast to respond and have only positive things to say about him. I look forward to seeing you again in September.“

Good accommodation, car beneficial.

We had great days. The cabin has everything you need. Our children (5 and 9) enjoyed the adventure under the roof and the stairs were no problem. Horst always answered our inquiries very quickly and gave us great tips. There are many excursion destinations in the area, but you should be traveling by car to reach everything easily.

Rustic Comfort

Nice landlord. Good location, you are quickly in the city center but also right by the forest. Outdoor pool about 15 minutes away and shopping opportunities about 5 minutes on foot. Oven for evening fires but also heating. We were there in December and it was always cozy and warm.

Not new, but clean and cozy.

Horst is a great host, friendly and helpful without being intrusive, very pleasant! The location is excellent, with various hiking trails right on the doorstep and the supermarket, city center, and train station for the Rennsteig Shuttle just a few minutes' walk away. The furnishings are not new but very clean and cozy with 2 small terraces in front and behind the house. Not luxurious, but we felt very comfortable all around! Great large garden.

Cozy and well maintained

Horst's cozy cabin is indeed a very cozy and well-kept place (it turned out that Horst had built it himself during GDR times!), which is actually larger than indicated in the pictures on the website. Even the terrace - actually 2! - is not as small. We were in the cabin with three friends. The quiet and beautiful (green) location is an excellent starting point for those traveling without a car and planning a hike in the Thuringian Forest, as the place is located on a hiking trail to Kickelhahn and is close to all amenities (shops and public transport). Horst is a very friendly and helpful host who is genuinely interested in people without being intrusive.

Small but nice - and very clean.

Horst is a very nice and friendly host. The apartment is small but nice and above all very (!) clean! The beds are very comfortable and one is also very large - as a tall person (like me) you will hit your head at least once (by the second time going through the door, it won't happen anymore. ;-) ) Unfortunately, we broke a coffee pot - I quickly informed Horst about it while we were away, and when we returned, a new one was waiting at the door! Just great!

Gaanz gemütlich

We escaped here for Christmas and it was so beautiful. Very cozy, everything you need, sparkling clean. Horst was always available for us (despite Christmas!), wood for the stove (yes, yes, there is also heating) was always available, and a special extra was the bath in the wooden tub! We would love to come back. Thanks again!

I'll be back

I was visiting Ilmenau for business and stayed at this AirBnB for 2 weeks in October. Horst was fast to respond and very helpful when I needed assistance to do laundry and get an iron. He even have fresh fruit from his garden. The cottage was very clean, very comfortable, and I will definitely stay again when I come back for work. The WiFi was probably the best I’ve had in Germany. I used to stay at Hotel Tanne but this is cheaper and has added features like a fridge, kitchenette, laundry machines, and good internet, making this is a no-brainer. See you next year, Horst!

a wonderful vacation

A very well-kept and cozy accommodation, close to the center and near the supermarket, but still very quiet and relaxing. Located in a blooming garden, surrounded by impressive Gründerzeit villas. Very nice and extremely helpful landlords. Ilmenau is perfect for a vacation in the Thuringian Forest, as it is very conveniently located. We are already planning our next vacation here :)

Great experience! The cabin is indeed cozy, but not small. There is plenty of space, the outdoor facilities are very usable. It is an excellent starting point for cycling and hiking tours. The center of Ilmenau is also within walking distance, even though there is not much to experience there; but going into town for a snack or a beer was comfortable.
