Short break in Alsace

Our first vacation in Alsace was a complete success. We felt very comfortable in the old oil mill, also thanks to the care and attention of the landlords, Tom and Gitti. Soultzeren was a good starting point for hiking for us. We would love to come back again!

Everything but ordinary...

...and just therefore perfect !!!
We felt very comfortable in the old oil mill of Gitti & Tom during our long weekend. Starting with the warm welcome with explanations of all important things, continuing with the enthusiasm about the tasteful furnishing of the "former attic", followed by enjoying the murmur of the Kleintalbach in the dark on the balcony with closed eyes, even more enhanced by a great birthday breakfast with the delicious jam a la Gitti, not to forget the unique "Room Service" with the fireplace already lit on arrival in the evening and, last but not least, the tour of the cellar with Tom's wood workshop and the remains of the oil mill worthy of preservation.
Besides, you can reach the absolutely worth seeing Colmar in 30 minutes and can reach places like Ribeauville, Riquewihr or Eguisheim via a beautiful route.
Tom & Gitti's oil mill alone is worth a 2nd trip because it is a unique accommodation !!!!

Pleasant time in a historic building

Pleasant stay in beautiful surroundings. We had great autumn weather, so we hiked for hours. Ended the afternoon on the balcony above a babbling brook. Soultzeren is an ideal starting point for hikes in the Muster valley and the Vosges ridge
The hosts' homemade jam provides a wonderful start to the day. Small deficiencies in the otherwise extensive equipment, the missing
Oven, as we also like to make our own tarte. Bed and sofa need getting used to because of the low seat height.

Secrets of a historic oil mill

While looking for a holiday home in Alsace, my wife found it in this charming old oil mill. Already at the first e-mail contact with Tom and Gitti, I had a very good and familiar feeling, what amazed me was the immediate call from Tom. No sooner said than done and booked! The personal welcome was very warm and the holiday flat already looked very cosy in the pictures, but in reality it amazed us. Everything is furnished with love and dedication and perfectly equipped down to the last detail. The balcony with the rushing brook below fitted perfectly into the atmosphere of the oil mill. Absolutely worth mentioning are the jams, which were available in all imaginable flavours for tasting in the kitchen snack, they let the day begin with pleasure. By the way, Tom created and made these jams himself. We also took up Gitti's offer and let her cook for us, what we were served was simply a treat for the palate.
We would like to thank Tom and Gitti once again for their hospitality, even though our stay only lasted 8 days, we will be happy to return in spring 2019

Summer holiday in Alsace

We felt very comfortable in the holiday flat, it is clean and well-maintained, the furnishings are top notch and the large, open, individually furnished room is very cosy. The old building has a lot of charm.
Spices, tea and other kitchen equipment are available, for breakfast we enjoyed delicious homemade jam.
With the current extreme summer temperatures, we were very happy about the ceiling fan.
Smaller (bearable) deficiencies were the somewhat uncomfortable French bed (we loved the continuous duvet/mattress, but the latter was just too thin) and the lack of an oven/microwave (but the gas cooker was warm in no time). In addition, the room cannot be darkened properly. The sound of the brook takes some getting used to when falling asleep, but is nice when relaxing on the spacious balcony. The privacy in the bathroom is a bit poor, as it is only separated from the rest of the flat by a thin wooden slatted door.
Soultzeren as a small and fortunately not touristy settlement is a great starting point for excursions and hikes into the wonderful, varied nature of the Vosges and the surrounding flower villages, also the wine and half-timbered towns like Colmar, Kaysersberg etc. with their castle ruins and pretty old towns are easy to reach by car. Munster with shopping and restaurants is around the corner. However, you should be prepared for the fact that the High Vosges are very crowded during the holidays. Many destinations (peaks, lakes) can be reached directly via the Route des Crêtes, for example - one man's joy is another man's sorrow.
Tom and Gitti are very nice and sympathetic hosts; unobtrusive, but very attentive, open and friendly. You feel you can come to them at any time with questions, concerns or for a little chat. We will hopefully be able to try out Gitti's highly praised cooking skills on our next visit :)

Very clean and well-maintained apartment with stylish charm in Soultzeren, equipped with everything we needed. Available with half board on request (or whatever you prefer), where Gitti is flexible in responding to wishes and preferences and convinces with creative cooking skills based on products from their own garden. Soultzeren is a small village without touristy frills, but all the more a perfectly located starting point for hikes and all other imaginable activities in Alsace. Gitti and Tom are unobtrusive but always approachable hosts who have a feel for their guests' wishes.

Warmly recommended

We felt very comfortable at Sickingers. This is due to the cozy and at the same time individually furnished holiday apartment. Our daughter set up her "children's room" on the gallery. It is also very pleasant to sit on the spacious and at the same time sheltered balcony. The location of the apartment is ideal as a starting point for hikes in the Southern Vosges. Furthermore, the hosts, with their warm-hearted nature, contributed significantly to our well-being. After we once took advantage of the hostess's cooking skills, we didn't want to miss out on an evening and were thrilled every time. Our daughter's every special request was anticipated or even made delicious. Although we hadn't booked breakfast, we were always spoiled with generously portioned and extremely tasty jam samples. We highly recommend a holiday stay with the Sickinger family!

Loving and individual care in a dreamlike nature

We were well catered for and could always decide for ourselves when we wanted to have our dinner in the evening after arrival. Tarte flambée, rabbit, salads, and the Indian vegetable dish are particularly noteworthy.

There is one minus point for the equipment due to the typically French bed with a very small lying surface, a continuous mattress, and one blanket for two. In terms of space, a normal double bed could have been set up - we did not sleep so well.

Unbelievable. We are running out of superlatives. Tom and Gitti did everything to make our stay at the oil mill special. Delicious jams for breakfast (which we enjoyed very much), a crackling fireplace upon returning home, and meticulously prepared meals by the two of you. We rarely had it this good. The apartment is furnished with a lot of love and taste, and the area is beautiful anyway. Gitti and Tom – thank you very, very much. It was hard to say goodbye.

Feeling good all around

From the first minute, we had a wonderful sunny short break in the Vosges. Slept well, ate superbly with the Sickinger family. The food is served in the holiday apartment at the desired time, beautifully presented, delicious tasting. The village is idyllic and quiet; in the bakery, you can get baguette early in the morning if you want to prepare breakfast yourself. A stroll through the quiet street is worthwhile. Colmar (Unter Linden Museum with a magnificent Otto Dix exhibition (until January 2017), hikes on the Vosges Ridge, or simply sitting by the fire and letting your soul unwind . . . we will return.

Historic oil mill in Soultzeren

In August 2016, we spent 2 weeks in the vacation rental of the Sickinger family. The apartment was very nice and functionally furnished (including the kitchen), and the balcony directly above the stream was wonderful. We felt very comfortable with the very nice landlords and got to know the cooking skills of the host (you should definitely try them). The delicious jam combinations are also worth mentioning.

Approximately 500 meters away, there is a bakery that also offers various other small. Food (coffee, water, eggs, yogurt...) is available. The surrounding area invites to beautiful walks and excursions. All in all, a very nice vacation!

Far too short stays.

Unfortunately, our busy weekly schedule only allowed us a 3-day/2-night stay. We will definitely come back. Tom and Gitti welcomed us extremely friendly and treated us to delicious homemade Flammkuchen in the evening.

The accommodation is not only ideal for hikers but also a perfect starting point for various road cycling tours (if they can be hilly).

4x Spitze

For "first-time explorers" of Alsace and the Vosges, this is the perfect starting point. Most people (us included) will book the same place for a second visit. Tom and Gitti are German, so no language barriers. The apartment is the ideal base for hiking tours in the High Vosges. The highlight of cities, Colmar, is 40 minutes away. Strasbourg is an hour away, but we saved that for our second visit. The vacation rental, the oil mill, and the place are just right for people who want to relax. Dogs and children fit in just as well. Our dog was definitely totally relaxed. Usually, we only use vacation rentals for breakfast and sleeping, including a little TV to fall asleep. But here, the dream-like food was added. Initially agreed on 6:30 PM, a different meal was served every evening. The order was placed the evening before based on the menu available. It was a given for the chef to accommodate different choices for my wife and me.
During the day, we mostly went hiking, around 12 km, but completely sufficient. We also found and enjoyed a free and beautiful swimming lake in Gérardmer.
Finally, a thank you to the local cheese, beer, and wine producers. All top-notch and not overpriced.
So, don't hesitate to go there ☺.

Glück gehabt!

This was my big highlight on my October trip this year: the apartment at the Sickingers: the discovery and - fortunately for me - available at short notice, so that I could enjoy a very cozy, spacious, and well-maintained home with a gourmet breakfast in Soultzeren by the rushing stream. The good maps and books about the Vosges and Alsace are tempting for the next vacation week.

six days of wonderful Munster Valley

This is our 1st review of a holiday home, not because other places weren't nice, but because we particularly enjoyed our stay with the Sickingers. The apartment is very cozy and individually decorated, at breakfast you have a great view of the Vosges mountains, and on the balcony (for us) the soothing sound of the Kleintalbach. After the beautiful, long hikes, we could already look forward to a great dinner - prepared by Tom or Gitti - without having to leave the house again. Everything always freshly prepared and so delicious! For us, these days were pure relaxation. Many, many thanks, we will definitely be repeat offenders!

Nachhaltig

A holiday apartment where you feel comfortable: In the morning, a short walk to the bakery (with post! ) Then breakfast with a wonderful view and off you go. We did all hikes starting from the house, only to Col de la Schlucht we drove up by car. Even the shopping trip to Munster can be done wonderfully on foot. On the way there is the opportunity to stock up on cheese directly from the farmer. The first thing to do upon return: light the fireplace. Super cozy and beautiful. Vacation in the mill by the rushing stream

A vacation rental as it should be, not too big, not too small, very practical and yet cozy furnished. The reality is even better than the photos on Wimdu. For self-catering, everything (!) you need is there. We highly recommend trying the additional offerings of the hosts - if you go to Alsace, you also want to experience the local cuisine. And you will definitely get it fresh and authentic, because it is prepared by experienced hands! The old mill, lovingly restored and made habitable, is (logically) located directly next to a mountain stream - on warm days, the shady terrace above it is an ideal spot, and on cold days, the cozy sofa by the fireplace is also available. The hosts are reserved but always available when advice or assistance is needed, for example, for tips on hiking in the picturesque surroundings. We can wholeheartedly recommend this accommodation! Our summer vacation in 2015

This summer, the Munster Valley in Alsace was our holiday destination. In July 2015, we spent 10 beautiful days with our hosts, Gitti and Tom Sickinger, in the old oil mill. We discovered the accommodation while browsing the internet. Convinced by the photos immediately, we booked the holiday apartment. The Sickingers welcomed us very warmly. The very well-equipped holiday apartment left nothing to be desired, but our son was particularly thrilled with the cool sleeping space on the open gallery. Time passed too quickly. A very good breakfast with Gitti's homemade jams, cold cuts, cheese, and fresh baguette allowed the day to start off relaxed. With the excursion tips Tom gave us, there was something for everyone in the family. The fantastic weather made us want to go swimming, the mountains just behind the house invited us to hike (great tip - hike to the Trout Lake), of course, the great wine villages just around the corner and a trip to Colmar are highly recommended. After an eventful day, Gitti and Tom welcomed us with delicious dinners. The tarte flambée and the lamb leg were a dream.

The lovingly renovated walnut mill of the Sickingers is an ideal home for a relaxed hiking vacation. The vacation rental is tastefully furnished with attention to detail. Spring week in the Vosges

Pure Entspannung

The stay at the old mill was simply fantastic. The apartment has been furnished with a lot of love and the landlords are just great! We were warmly welcomed and a crackling fireplace every evening upon return was real luxury. Gitti's cooking skills should not be missed, especially the jams are very, very tasty :-) The apartment is located quietly by the creek and yet in the middle of the village, and by car, you can quickly reach Munster and not far from Colmar. Exploring the beautiful landscape of Alsace can start right outside the front door.

We had a great stay with very nice and helpful landlords in a super beautiful apartment in a great location! What more could you want to relax? We will definitely not be the last time there!

A quiet escape in nature.

Very friendly people, Tom and Gitti, renovated this old oil mill in a very tasteful and cozy way! We had a fantastic time with them, Gitti cooked us some very yummy food in the evening. During the day we walked through the forest, saw the lakes closeby, and visited Colmar, just a few minutes' drive from the gite. The fire was lit when we got home after the walk, just what we needed!! The private balcony at the river side was our favorite corner!

Simply great!

We had a great stay in a fantastic, spacious, but above all clean and lovingly furnished holiday apartment. The fully equipped kitchen and a fireplace provide the desired warmth and ultimately absolute coziness in the apartment.

Particularly noteworthy is the half-board option, with a wide range of various dishes, all freshly prepared, leaving no culinary wishes unfulfilled. The surrounding area is mainly interesting for hikes. However, many beautiful destinations can also be reached by car. Various larger cities can be reached in a short time.

All in all, we had a wonderful and eventful holiday and are already looking forward to the next time.

Wonderful stay at the old oil mill

Very nice accommodation with a friendly couple who are the landlords. There is even the possibility to have very good meals cooked by the landlords. The lady of the house is a trained chef. The food is really delicious.

Here one feels comfortable!

In the beautifully furnished vacation rental, you immediately feel at home. The hosts were very nice, greeted us with homemade jam specialties, and on cooler evenings, the wood stove was already lit when we returned from our day trips. We felt well taken care of at the oil mill :)

Very nice holiday apartment with a view of the Vosges.

The apartment is very nicely furnished and comfortably equipped! There is everything you need for a great and relaxing holiday: the best hosts, good food (TIP: book half board and try the delicious jam), the view of the village and the Vosges from the breakfast table... Also interesting: the history of the house and the restoration, and the woodworking workshop (we took home an Ulmer stool!)

Peace and enjoyment for Easter

We thoroughly enjoyed our days over Easter in the tastefully furnished holiday apartment at Sickingers. Although it was bitterly cold outside, the crackling in the wood stove, the cozy warmth, and the expected peace more than made up for it! The historic oil mill in Soultzeren is an oasis of tranquility and an ideal starting point for exploring the beautiful surroundings. TIP: under no circumstances should you forego the half-board option, as Gitti and Tom Sickinger are not only great hosts but also fantastic cooks. . .
CONCLUSION: would love to come back anytime. . .

Relaxed New Year's Eve

We had a wonderful time in Soultzeren. The apartment is very well equipped (the only thing missing is an oven), cozy, beautifully and quietly located. The landlords are very friendly, helpful, and have good hiking tips on hand. We would do it again anytime.

free time activities: Freiburg, Munter und Colmar sind einfach mit dem Auto zu erreichen und sicherlich einen Ausflug wert. Es gibt viele Wanderwege. Ein Ausflug zum Grand Ballon lohnt ebenfalls. Diese Trips sollten jedoch vorher etwas geplant werden.

shopping facilities: Im Ort selbst gibt es einen Bäcker und ebenfalls einen kleinen Einkaufsladen. Der nächste uns bekannte Supermarkt ist in Munster und lag immer auf der Strecke.

Very nice operators, very fair prices, great facilities, and very clean.
The sound of the stream lulls you to sleep, totally cozy and with a feel-good factor.

Tip: Definitely book half board; The hostess is a retired passionate professional chef.

Also worth seeing and interesting is the woodworking shop including products of the host.

We had a wonderful time at the oil mill. The apartment is nicely decorated and cozy, offering everything you need. Mrs. Sickinger cooked a delicious meal for us on the first evening! The weather was great, so we could do a lot of hiking and explore the wonderful Vosges/Alsace region.
