Description

Grönaberg is an old Soldattorp, a small but very fine house, then consisting of only 1-2 rooms, today individually furnished and fully equipped with great attention to detail

You enter the house via an open porch with cosy benches on both sides and reach a small, inviting hallway painted in pink, from which the door to the blue and white bedroom leads off to the left. This is equipped with a mirror, wardrobe and chest of drawers as well as a double bed made up of 2 single beds (90 cm x 200 cm). A great old tiled stove heats it up wonderfully in the transitional seasons!

The door to the right leads into the living room. There is a tiled stove here as well. A wonderfully soft sofa and the two rocking chairs form our cosy sitting area. At the front window is the game table with 4 chairs. Next to it is a shelf with all kinds of things to keep you occupied on rainy days (children's books and novels in German, Danish and Swedish, various board games, a box of Legos and other toys).

For those who are interested, there is also a chronicle about Sweden's emigrants (many people emigrated from this region, there are numerous local history societies that deal extensively with the subject) and historical information about the house and its surroundings. Among other things, you will find Vilhelm Moberg's first volume on the subject. Gardening enthusiasts will also find something to browse through here.

In the living room you will also find our day bed - perfect for relaxing or reading during the day and a cosy single bed with a comfortable mattress (90 cm x 200) at night.

From the blue and white bedroom and the living room you enter the kitchen-living room. It has a large window overlooking the back garden (the morning sun shines in for breakfast) and invites you to share meals with a great old bench and 4 chairs. The kitchen was completely redesigned in 2013 and is fully equipped with a large fridge-freezer, an electric cooker with oven, toaster, coffee maker and kettle, as well as plenty of work areas for cooking together. Pots, pans and crockery are provided in sufficient quantity.

From the kitchen, a hallway leads to the bathroom. This was also completely redone a few years ago in a typically charming Swedish way. There is a shower with a shower curtain, a washbasin, a cupboard for storing toiletries, a toilet and a washing machine.

A staircase with handrail leads to the upper floor. There is a small cuddle and play area with Lego at the front. On the right wall in the hallway is a bunk for an adult or up to 2 gnomes (mattress 90 x 200). At the front we have an open room with chest of drawers and sleeping loft for 2 (futon 160 x 200) and at the back another sheep room with small stove, chests of drawers and double bed (original handmade, from the 19th century) together with bedside tables (2 x 90 x 200).

Location and surroundings of object

After all, Grönaberg is almost "just around the corner" from us, so we can talk out of the sewing box here. These are our highlights when it comes to a short or day trip:

*) Take our rowing boat and conquer Lake Åbodasjön (a detailed description of where it is located can be found in the guest folder).
*) You can visit one of the wonderful bathing places, very close: Åboda, Sörsjön, Sjöanäs, a bit further away but really nice (and with canoe rental): Grunnen
*) Right next door is the Fiolenområdet nature reserve, which is wonderful to cycle around.
*) Visit one of the old churches in Slätthög or Harlöv.
*) Visit Store Mosse National Park, a marshland through which you can walk on wooden planks, about 45 minutes by car
*) The northern gate of the Småland glass kingdom (Målerås and Kosta) is about 1 hour's drive.
*) Grönåsens Elk Park is a nice destination, located about 80 km southeast.
*) New in Kosta is the Safari Park, also about 80 km.
*) The Astrid Lindgren World in Vimmerby is about 150 km away, about 2 hours by car. A nice experience, rather unexciting, sometimes crowded.
*) With a total length of 3.3 kilometres, the zipline at "Little Rock Lake" in south-eastern Småland is the longest zipline of its kind in Europe - that's "as good as around the corner", about 1 hour by car.
*) To the west (clearly ;) lies the western town of High Chaparral, about 1 hour's drive
*) From Ohs, a steam-driven narrow-gauge railway runs through the middle of the forest.
*) Near Nydala at Rusken you can hike the Munkaleden, an old monk's path with meditation places in nature.
*) Also at Rusken is Moens Gård, a beautiful nature reserve.
*) On the way from Moheda towards Växjö you will find several loppis (flea and antique markets) - many of the furnishings in this house come from there, ideal for buying souvenirs from Sweden.
*) On the way to Alvesta there is a gliding field and a golf course.
*) You can't just listen to them - in Ljungby there is the Fairy Tale Museum, throughout the region there are many places that have fairy tales as their theme - more information can be found in the guest folder.
*) The cities of Växjö (40 km), Kalmar (150 km, gateway to Öland), Jönköping (100 km, at the southern end of Vättern) are popular with our girls.
*) In Gränna (130 km) there are the famous Polkagrisar and you can take the ferry to Visingsö and visit the old fortress)
*) There are many nice farm cafés nearby, just around the corner the "bei der Pferdefrau", one also with hearty food in Möcklehult (near the Grunnen bathing place, )
*) There is often snow here not so much in winter as in spring - there are a few slopes in the Hanaslöv ski area south of Alvesta.
*) In the north of Växjö there is a nice nature reserve with a pull ferry and a circular walk over an island, near the castle
*) You will find many more suggestions and always up-to-date brochures in our guest folder

Cozy house with rowing boat

Cozy house, lovingly and individually furnished, in a quiet environment with a lovely view of greenery. Well-suited for families with small children, there is an indoor play corner with plenty of toys and books, and outside a swing and hammock.
There are a couple of very nice lakes accessible by bike in the area, one of which has a nice swimming spot where the house's rowing boat is also located. The landlords were always available to answer questions and were eager to help us and provide tips. We had a very nice time.

Live well in the museum

A wonderful place for the soul and the original. Those who enjoy using a stove for heating, lying in a hammock, making a fire, or boating on a dreamy lake or swimming in it are exactly right here. We also processed the fruits from the garden or enjoyed delicious blueberry pancakes. Our 5 children played in the woods, swam, or had fun in the rustic house. The kitchen is well-equipped. The master bedroom downstairs is visually a dream. The house is old, with floorboards and sometimes unplastered areas, but that also has charm and work is always being done on it. For example, the roof was just newly done. The bathroom meets the standard, etc. All in all, awesome!!!

Our autumn holiday

We spent two wonderful weeks together here in Haus Grönaberg. The handover of the keys was very uncomplicated (key safe). There is a lovingly designed folder with brochures and hiking routes, which inspired us to many excursions. For example, we went to several lakes and "lifted" some geocaching treasures. We deliberately decided not to buy the wi-fi. It was a holiday in which we could really relax. However, a car is highly recommended for shopping, as well as excursions, arrival and departure, as the house is quite idyllically remote! 5 stars from us.

Cozy holiday accommodation

The house is very lovingly furnished, has a dreamy garden, and is located in an almost picturesque landscape. It is a wonderful place - perfect to relax, simply let your soul dangle or be active. We gladly used both the available bicycles and the rowing boat on the nearby lake - the hosts have thought of everything. The contact was very warm. Questions were answered promptly. Thanks for your patience.

Almost complete silence

We were in Grönaberg for a week in July 2019 and enjoyed the peace and quiet. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by Myriam and Kolja, and the handover was completely problem-free. We can highly recommend it for a peaceful vacation if you, like us, want to do without television, radio, and the internet. At most, a car passes by the house three times a day.

For years I have owned a holiday home in Smaland, where I have spent many wonderful holidays with my family. In order to make it possible for friends and extended family to visit us, the idea of buying another holiday home in the vicinity had been around for a while. In summer 2018, we were lucky and found the house in Grönaberg (a few kilometres away from ours), which immediately enchanted me. Cosy and lovingly furnished, it is in a really nice and quiet location and can now also be rented by holiday guests during the "family-free" times.
