Casa Dona Maria is a characteristic old Portuguese house built of granite, situated in the centre of the village. The house is divided into three apartments, Loja is the flat on the ground floor which can house up to eight people. It has its own entrance and terrace with a view of the river Alva, whilst the rest of the garden is available for use by the guests.

Casa Dona Maria is situated in the centre of the village. From the front door, wich is close to a traditional parish church, you step out into the picturesque streets of Vila Cova, and from the veranda there is a panoramic of the valley and the river, the Rio Alva, which is a short walk away.

Vila Cova de Alva is a picturesque village of 550 inhabitants in the province of Beiras, in the green heart of Portugal. It lies on the Rio Alva at the foot of the Serra do Açor, where there are fantastic walks and superb views of the surrounding mountains (Serra da Estrela, Serra da Lousa etc.). The village has a defunct 18th. century monastry, a church, four bars, and several small grocer’s shops, which sell fresh bread daily; a fishmonger and a butcher regularly visit the village, and there are several restaurants within a distance of 5 kilometres. The Rio Alva has many quiet and peaceful beaches for swimming.
