A tour through the historic center of Comacchio
Many people know the small town of Lido delle Nazioni. In 1849, the state founder Giuseppe Garibaldi and his ill companion Anita are said to have landed here to hide in the so-called Garibaldi Hut (Capanno Garibaldi), which can still be visited today. In the center of Comacchio, the Cathedral of San Cassiano from the end of the 17th century is worth seeing. The origins of the church date back to the year 708. The historic center is characterized by numerous pedestrian bridges over the canals. The most famous bridge is the Ponte Trepponti, which spans the confluence of three canals with its multiple arches and stairs. In addition to the bridges, the old city palaces (Palazzi) in the center of Comacchio, such as the Palazzo Bellini from 1870 or the Palazzo Tura from 1715, are fascinating. The clock tower dates back to the 14th century but was rebuilt after a collapse in 1816.
Endless beaches, 150 Bagni, and plenty of nature
The beaches of Lidi di Comacchio stretch for 23 kilometers along the Adriatic coast. Over 150 Bagni (bagno, Italian: bath) provide an optimal infrastructure with showers, changing rooms, and restaurants. At the beaches, you can swim, sail, surf, kite-surf, or kayak. Entertainment for children and a separate beach area where FKK (nudism) is allowed are also available. The illuminated bicycle path from Comacchio to Porto Garibaldi is perfect for cycling and inline skating. Inland, you'll find the saline Lago delle Nazioni, home to a wide variety of birds, and wild horses from the Camargue region in a reserve north of the town. For a refreshing swim at your holiday home, book a holiday with a pool in Lido delle Nazioni.
In the homeland of balsamic vinegar, Bolognese sauce, and Lambrusco
The Emilia-Romagna region is known for some dishes and delicacies that represent the whole country. These include Parmesan cheese (Parmigiano Reggiano), Parma ham, Aceto Balsamico from Modena, and the so-called Bolognese sauce, which is called Ragù alla bolognese or simply "al Ragù" in Italy. There is much debate about the real Bolognese recipe, with thousands of variations featuring "secret" ingredients such as liver, heart, cock's comb, or cinnamon bark. The Ragù is traditionally combined with wide Tagliatelle pasta. Ravioli filled with various ingredients are also popular, and each city has its own version –filled with potatoes and cheese, ricotta and spinach, pumpkin, or sheep's or goat's cheese. In the vicinity of your holiday home in Lido delle Nazioni, you'll find numerous bistros, bars, restaurants, and trattorias. Along the Adriatic coast, fish is, of course, the main feature on menus: fish soups, pasta with seafood, grilled fish or fritto misto – fish fried in beer batter. Meat lovers shouldn't miss the stracotto, a braised roast seasoned with cinnamon, cloves, and juniper, served with polenta. Aceto Balsamico, already mentioned, is made from the Lambrusco grape variety, of which the sparkling wine has a dubious reputation as a sweet party drug with a headache guarantee. In recent years, many winemakers have focused on quality, producing exceptional red and sparkling wines from the Labrusco grape.
