Catania was rebuilt mainly in the Roman Baroque style after an eruption of Mount Etna in 1669 and an earthquake in 1693. The old town is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The main shopping street, Via Etnea, leads from the historic center at Piazza Duomo. Catania also has a recommendable market. The Palazzo Biscari is also one of the most imposing buildings in the region. The interior of the palace is decorated with impressive elements of Rococo. The Elephant Fountain in front of the cathedral on Piazza del Duomo is considered the landmark of Catania. On display is an elephant made of black lava stone carrying an ancient granite obelisk from Egypt. In February, Catania celebrates one of the largest festivals in Sicily, attracting 200,000 people to the city each year. The festival is held in honor of Saint Agatha.
