Travel guide Selce
Reach Selce in just a few hours
Selce is located about 35 kilometers southeast of
Rijeka in the
Kvarner Bay on the Croatian Adriatic coast. You can reach your privately-owned holiday apartment via Rijeka Airport on Krk. The journey with a taxi or rental car from the airport to your holiday accommodation takes about half an hour. If you travel from southern Germany, you can expect about seven hours of driving. The route takes you through Austria and Slovenia. Side trips to Trieste or Zagreb are possible. Book a holiday accommodation that meets your personal wishes at an unbeatable price. Whether you book an apartment in the center or a house in a quieter location during your stay, numerous destinations for unforgettable excursions are not far away in the resort.
Perfect holiday weather all year round
The Kvarner Bay has a pleasant Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and wet, mild winters. The sun shines for more than 2,100 hours a year. The average air temperature rises to just under 24°C in the summer months. In winter, the mountain ranges in the hinterland can sometimes make it cool. However, daytime temperatures are usually in the double-digit range. The water temperature of the Adriatic Sea rises to 24°C in July and August – perfect for a
beach holiday in Selce.
A culinary journey between the sea and the mountains
The region is a true gourmet paradise. Here, Istrian cuisine meets Dalmatian cuisine, the cuisine of farmers and shepherds meets that of fishermen. Add to that the historical influences because of Croatian history: influences from Italy, southeastern Europe, and Austria. The eastern Adriatic still boasts good fish stocks. However, the decreasing availability is reflected in the salty prices. In restaurants and konobas, fish is calculated per kilo. With lobsters and crayfish, you may get the feeling that the animals are weighed against gold. However, for most fish, you can assume that they were caught sustainably with small boats. Grilled lamb, goat, game dishes, and sausages are also popular. Istrian cuisine also brings a wide selection of risottos – from truffle risotto to black squid ink risotto. A special feature is the preparation under the peka, a bell made of clay. Pieces of lamb or octopus are cooked with wine and vegetables for hours under it. The neighboring town of
Novi Vinodolski (Vinodol = wine valley) is almost as famous for its wine as the island of
Krk with its Žlahtina. Malvasia, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay are also cultivated.
Water fun and hiking desire between the coast and the hinterland
A holiday home in Selce is perfect for a vacation with the whole family. The excellent water quality of the Adriatic ensures annual awards for the beaches with the Blue Flag. The Poli Mora and Rokan beaches are fine pebble beaches that gently slope into the water and are suitable for toddlers. There is an Aqua Gun and a large water slide for the little ones. Water sports opportunities such as sailing, surfing, water skiing, and stand-up paddling are also available. The 8-kilometer-long Promenade Trail between Lungomare and Crikvenica along the coast is suitable for a
holiday with a dog in Selce. Other hiking trails lead through the hinterland and into the mountains. The names of the hiking trails already give an idea of what to expect: Sage Trail, Cliff Trail, Karst Trail, or Roman Trail.
More than 2,000 years of vibrant culture
Hospitality has been a high priority here for over a hundred years. In 1894, the first seaside resort in the town was opened. Subsequently, hotels, private villas, and guesthouses were established. The Art Nouveau Hotel Esperanto dates from this time. In the neighboring town of
Kraljevica, the New Castle (Novi Grad) from the mid-17th century is worth seeing. It is built in the Renaissance style. During the time of the k.u.k. monarchy, a conspiracy against the government was planned in the castle. After the thwarting of the plot, the castle was converted into a military hospital. Allow at least a whole day to visit the 2020 European Capital of Culture. Rijeka is under the motto "Port of Diversity." The port is one of Croatia's most important and can look back on a millennia-old tradition as a seaport. The city is also famous for its theater scene and carnival. Rent a holiday accommodation at a favorable price directly on the water and sleep in the comfortable beds to gather strength for new excursions.
