Because of its very rich historical past and of its situation (between Orient and Occident), the island offers to the visitors a lot of interesting sites to explore : in the Southern part medieval villages built in fortress living from mastiha cop (natural gum unique in the world),the caves of Olympi, in the Western part, the village of Anavatos built by the pirates on a rock, the byzantine monastry of Nea Moni, the volcanic beach...
