Discover the cuisine of
Sicily, one of the oldest and most varied regional kitchens in Italy. Typical appetizers or snacks include Arancini (small filled rice balls) or Sfincione (a type of pizza made from bread dough). Regionally specific pasta dishes include Pasta con le sarde (with sardines) or Pasta alla Norma (with eggplants). A delicacy from rural areas is Farsu magru, a stuffed meat roll. In Agrigento and other coastal towns in Sicily, fish is highly popular. Insalata di arance (orange salad) is traditionally served with fried fish or meat. Ragusano and Pecorino Siciliano are typical Sicilian cheeses. Sweet lovers will also find plenty to enjoy in Agrigento and Sicily - with recipes that date back to the Arab era. Famous treats include Cassata cake, Frutta martorana (fruit made from marzipan), and Cannoli (pastry rolls filled with ricotta cream).
Imposing Buildings Full of History
Rent a suitable accommodation, such as a holiday apartment or a holiday home, in Agrigento in
Italy and experience the perfect combination of culture and beach! The most significant attraction is the Valley of the Temples, an archaeological and landscape park that stretches along a ridge south of the ancient Greek city, Akragas. Here, you can find the ruins of five Greek temples. The Concordia Temple is considered one of the best-preserved temples of its kind. The Temple of the Dioscuri is even considered the symbol of Agrigento today. Another highlight is the Garden of Kolymbethra, located below the Temple of Castor and Pollux. Here, citrus fruits and other Mediterranean crops are cultivated. The ancient irrigation system has been functional since 2000. The Garden of Kolymbethra is the perfect place to relax under the scent of citrus trees after visiting the temples. We also recommend the Archaeological Museum, built in 1967 on the remains of a former Cistercian monastery. Agrigento's old town is also worth a visit. From the Vicolo Teatro, it's worth the climb through the winding center up to the Church of Santa Maria dei Greci and the Cathedral. The impressive Chiesa di San Lorenzo, which is used only for cultural events, is also a must-see. About four kilometers south of the old town is the district of San Leone, which boasts several beaches. Two kilometers west of the city center is the Villaseta district, where you can visit the birthplace of Luigi Pirandello.
