If you enter your address on Google Maps, you will be lower on the slope, but if you take a good look at Aerial photo, it works and the notorious slope is not too bad, for a slightly more experienced driver, actually just fun! Reception by super nice couple and stairs walking is also no longer necessary, because recently there is a (super slow) lift ... Accommodation is just fine, everything is there what is needed, and super clean. View is unique and rare beautiful! Walking to the village is a experience in itself, by finding paths through the old center to the beautiful boulevard.

How do I come to Lake Como?

Travel to Lake Como for your holiday in just a few hours

Lake Como, 50 km north of Milan, is the third largest lake in Italy after Lake Garda and Lake Maggiore. From the shores of the lake, you can enjoy diverse panoramas: picturesque villages, impressive villas with lake views, and culturally significant sights. The nearest airport is Milan Malpensa. From Terminal 1, the Malpensa Express train goes directly to Como Lago station. Flying to Italy via Milan-Linate or Bergamo is also possible. This way, you can reach your privately rented holiday accommodation in less than four hours from any German airport. When traveling by train from the north, Como can be reached with the Eurocity trains Zurich/Lucerne-Milan. Arriving by night train to your holiday home or apartment in a prime location is very comfortable. From May to October, a car train also runs to Verona. If you arrive by car from Switzerland to Italy, the quickest route is via St. Moritz and Chiavenna. The well-developed SS36 runs along the entire eastern shore. Ferries and hydrofoils operate between all major towns as part of the Navigazione Lago di Como - perfect for excursions. Car ferries run between Varenna, Bellagio, Cadenabbia, and Menaggio in the center of the lake.

How is the weather in Lake Como?

The warm climate in Italy allows for an early spring bloom

Located in Lombardy, northern Italy, the climate of your holiday destination is overall very mild. In general, a trip to Lake Como is still worthwhile in October and again in April. Here, you can slightly extend the summer and escape the long winter with a holiday home or apartment. A light wind called Breva blows almost daily. The summer months of June to September are perfect for windsurfing and kitesurfing. From October, the Breva decreases and then completely dies down over the winter until early February. For those who prefer hot temperatures, the best time to book a holiday home or apartment (e.g., in Varenna, Menaggio, or Bellagio) at Lake Como is from June to August. If you prefer a milder climate during your holiday, the remaining months are generally favorable, except for January. The rainiest months are May and June, with up to 10 rainy days per month. The months with the fewest rainy days are March, September, and December.

Explore the historical beauties along Lake Como from your holiday apartment. A row of enchanting villas line the shore like a pearl necklace, dating back to 1600 when the lake was a popular holiday resort for the Lombardy nobility. A must-see highlight is Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo, built privately as a summer residence in the late 17th century and now a museum since 1927. Art treasures have been collected since 1800 and are displayed in the villa, including works by neoclassical sculptor Antonio Canova and Thorvaldsen's monumental Alexander Frieze, as well as 18th-century furniture and furnishings. The villa's parkland covers eight hectares and is a veritable botanical garden. The Italian garden, with its symmetrical hedges, lies directly on the lakeshore. Further up is the azalea and rhododendron garden, world-famous for its lush bloom in April and May. Visitors can also stroll through a large bamboo garden or visit the rock garden. The English garden features rare trees and even an artificial gorge. Concerts for the Lake Como Festival take place in this park. The Forte di Fuentes, built around 1605 on Monte di Montecchio, is particularly worth seeing. The strategically important position enabled control of the routes between Valtellina and Valchiavenna. Today, visitors can explore the ruins of the fortress and the Church of Saint Barbara on a day trip.
