Location and surroundings of object

from my blog to Vicopisano, a village nearby:
Vicopisano, like most other villages and towns here in Tuscany, had its best time in the Middle Ages. At that time in direct proximity to the river Arno and thus directly at the important connection way between the big cities Pisa and Florenz. Connected to the lake of Bientina and Lake Sextum (important for the area of Lucca)

Today the river is further away from the village by drainage.

However, people lived here as early as the 5th century BC, as finds confirm.

After the fighting between Pisa, Lucca and Florence (and Genova from the sea) were too dangerous to build in 1406 the watchtower 'La Rocca del Brunelleschi'

Visits: Saturdays from to o'clock

Sundays: and

There are 9 preserved medieval towers in the center, which were used as palazzi and case-torri. So residential towers, nothing more than showing off. Who had the highest tower had the most money (and power).

There are also 4 watchtowers along the city wall.

Here is some information about the individual towers:

Known is a district of Vicopisano, San Giovanni alla Vena because of the ceramic production. First documents date from the middle of the 15th century. You can visit one of the workshops there and buy the typical Tuscan ceramics right there.

The thermal baths of Uliveto are a few km to Pisa:

Just above Pescia is the Pescia, where there are 10 medieval villages that are mentioned 10 Castella and it's worth it to visit this. You can download the individual villages reached by car or hiking paths from village to village run. In some villages there are restaurants and small shops. Old mills, a stream where you can swim and lots of nature invite the Tuscany to learn times from a different angle.
