Travel guide Damüls
Discovering Tradition
The most beautiful sights in Damüls are the wonderful mountains and valleys with their wealth of forests and idyllic alpine pastures. Explore the Nature Park "Großes Walsertal", which is located in the immediate vicinity of the municipality. A popular excursion destination in the Vorarlberg region is the Damülser Rundkurs. It runs above the tree line and can be reached by chairlift. Hike to Hochblanken via Ragazer Blanken to Sünser Joch and enjoy the spectacular views from these points.
The Natural Monument Strasse is a rock cut that looks like a historical, almost decayed road. It is located in the Hollagaß district near Damüls. The village of Damüls has several historical buildings to offer, which you can visit on a small tour. In the Catholic parish church, you can admire wonderful frescoes depicting a so-called "Armenbibel." The tiny chapel Stofel on the Alpe Oberdamüls marks an interesting viewpoint and testifies to the piety of the local mountain farmers.
Cultural Events in Damüls
In connection with the excellent ski area
Mellau and the Faschina–Fontanella ski area, a holiday in Damüls offers a lot of variety with traditional festivals, music, and culture. The
Angelika-Kauffmann-Museum in Schwarzenberg is currently closed until March 2024 (as of November 2023). After the winter break, you should definitely pay a visit to the museum. This artist, for example, designed the high altar painting for the Schwarzenberger parish church and numerous portraits and paintings that can be admired in the museum.
The traditional costume in the Bregenzerwald region includes the so-called "Juppe." Visit the
Juppenwerkstatt in Riefensberg and watch how the original pieces are still made today. If you like, you can admire historical pieces in the museum or learn how to make the traditional costume in a course. The opening hours can be found
here. Admission for adults aged 18 and over is €8 (as of November 2023). If you are more interested in sports and their history, visit the
Ski Museum in the Damüls parish hall. Here you will find documents, photos, and stories about the development of skiing and the production of skis in Vorarlberg over the last 130 years. Concerts and cabaret are offered in the local pubs and also in the parish hall.
Enjoy Culinary Specialties from the Mountains
The cuisine in the
Vorarlberg region is characterized by freshness, regional ingredients, and refined creations. Many of the specialties used come from the alpine farms or small food manufactories. Take part in an alpine hike or a
Sennkurs to discover the secrets of regional cuisine. Discover culinary delights with a sunrise breakfast or evening get-together in the ski hut.
Along the
Käsestraße Bregenzerwald, you can taste aromatic creations such as alpine cheese, camembert, fresh cheese, Sura Kees, or various cheeses made from goat's or sheep's milk. Delicacies such as mountain cheese from the region, mustard, chocolate creations, whey cosmetics, or fine spirits are perfect as a nice souvenir from your holiday. You can buy directly from the producer, for example, in the Beerenküche farm shop in
Dornbirn or at Lisilis Biohof in Meinigen. The fish farm in Schwarzenberg supplies trout and char, which you can enjoy smoked, fried, or grilled in your holiday apartment in Damüls.
Outdoor Adventures for Young and Old
For a relaxing holiday with the whole family, take ski tours or hikes in the surrounding area. If you are traveling with several people, a family card for lifts and public transport is worthwhile. On the Alpe Kanis, there is a water playground that provides a welcome refreshment on hot days. In the
