Getting to Plitvice Lakes by car, train, or plane

The climate in the region is influenced by two central factors: the increasing altitude and the relative proximity to the Mediterranean. Located about 50 kilometers from the coast and at an altitude of 400 to 1,200 meters above sea level, the region has a warm, but not too hot climate in summer. The Mala Kapela mountain range borders the area to the west, and the Pljesevica range to the east. In Plitvice Lakes National Park, you will find a total of 16 lakes. Since these are connected to each other over many hundreds of meters in altitude, breathtaking watercourses emerge in pristine nature. The beautiful Great Waterfall (Croatian: Veliki Slap) leaves its viewers in awe with mouths wide open, so impressive is it. At 78 meters in height, it is also Croatia's highest waterfall.
