How do I come to Plitvicer Seen?

Getting to Plitvice Lakes by car, train, or plane

There are several ways to get to Plitvice Lakes National Park, depending on your preferences and starting point. From southern Germany, your holiday destination in Central Croatia can be easily reached by car. For example, the distance from Munich is just under 600 kilometers, and the route can usually be covered in seven hours. If you are traveling from northern Germany to your affordable holiday home, we recommend taking the train or plane. Nearby train stations are located in Zagreb (140 km from Plitvice Lakes) or Karlovac (90 km). Buses run from there to the national park. By plane, the international airports in Zagreb, Rijeka (180 km), or Zadar (150 km) should be targeted. Plitvice Lakes can be reached from there by rental car or bus connection. Book a holiday accommodation or an apartment, a holiday home or a holiday house with a balcony and internet according to your personal wishes and spend unforgettable holidays in one of the most beautiful regions of Europe. Explore the surroundings of your holiday region and discover picturesque places and natural phenomena within easy reach. This is where your dream of unforgettable holidays in the heart of the Plitvice National Park comes true.

weather & climate

How is the weather in Plitvice Lakes?

Pleasantly warm summer weather from June to August

The climate in the region is influenced by two central factors: the increasing altitude and the relative proximity to the Mediterranean. Located about 50 kilometers from the coast and at an altitude of 400 to 1,200 meters above sea level, the region has a warm, but not too hot climate in summer. Thus, a privately owned holiday home is ideal for those who want to escape the summer heat of the Mediterranean countries. Pleasant warmth and plenty of sunshine are still guaranteed by the summer months of June to August. The lakes are perfect for cooling off.

food & beverages

Where can I eat out in Plitvice Lakes?

Enjoyment through the products of the hills and lakes

The cuisine in the hinterland of the Kvarner Bay is strongly influenced by the mountainous topography. While seafood naturally determines the taste in local restaurants on the coast, this applies to the Plitvice Lakes for freshwater dwellers and the fruits of the hills. Used vegetables, such as potatoes and cabbage, can be grown well in the climate and soil conditions of the surrounding mountain ranges of Lika-Senj. In addition to the freshwater fish that can be caught in Plitvice Lakes, meat is an essential part of Plitvice's cuisine. The large proportion of wild game is particularly noteworthy. The regional cheese varieties are recommended due to the livestock farming in the slopes. The water stored in the forested soil benefits mushrooms, which first sprout between the trees and then end up in the pan. More exotic ingredients of Plitvice's cuisine, such as snails or frogs, are also due to the moist soil climate.

activities with children

What can you experience in Plitvice Lakes with children?

Mouths wide open for young and old in front of the countless waterfalls

Countless waterfalls, cascades, and mountain streams make their way through the mountain ranges, in the heart of which the Plitvice Lakes are located. The Mala Kapela mountain range borders the area to the west, and the Pljesevica range to the east. In Plitvice Lakes National Park, you will find a total of 16 lakes. Since these are connected to each other over many hundreds of meters in altitude, breathtaking watercourses emerge in pristine nature. The beautiful Great Waterfall (Croatian: Veliki Slap) leaves its viewers in awe with mouths wide open, so impressive is it. At 78 meters in height, it is also Croatia's highest waterfall. The 25-meter-high Galovac Waterfall is no less worth seeing. You can also explore other natural phenomena near your holiday home with your family or rent an electric boat and sail across the Kaluđerovac Lake (also known as the Silver Lake from the Winnetou films). Besides many beautiful hiking trails, you can also find the Korana River here. Be sure to take a trip to Grabovac too.

sights & activities

What do you need to experience in Plitvice Lakes?

Over hill and dale through the mountains around the Plitvice Lakes

The region around the Plitvice Lakes in the hinterland of the Kvarner Bay is ideal for hiking holidays. In addition to hiking tours of different lengths through the national park, the surrounding mountain ranges can also be explored on foot. In contrast to the famous routes, for example to the summit Tupi Medvedak or Turcic, these hiking trails seem almost deserted. You can use these human-free routes to recharge your batteries and enjoy the tranquility. The spacious trails make these hikes ideal for a four-legged companion. Use alternative paths around Plitvice Lakes for a holiday with a dog or pet in Kvarner Bay or its mountainous hinterland. Book accommodation, a holiday home, a holiday residence, or an apartment with a balcony and internet according to your personal wishes and experience unforgettable holidays.
