Travel guide Fügen
A merely slight increase
Fügen is the largest municipality in the Zillertal in Austria and belongs to the Schwaz district in
Tyrol. The Zillertal is the broadest southern side valley of the Inn Valley and does not overcome any valley level. From Strass to Mayrhofen, it only rises slightly. That's why even a journey in the winter months to a vacation apartment is quite comfortable.
If you arrive by train or plane, you avoid possible traffic jams at the junctions. With the Zillertalbahn, you can easily get from Jenbach station to your accommodation or apartment. If you land in Munich or the state capital
Innsbruck by plane, you can travel with a shuttle service to your dream destination. If you come by car, drive from Munich/Salzburg/Vienna on the A1, A8, and A93 to Kiefersfelden. Continue on the A12 to the Zillertal exit. Make sure to get a vignette. Alternatively, you can also drive toll-free via the Achenpass on the B181 to Wiesing. Then the B169 leads you into the Zillertal. If you come from the west, drive from Vorarlberg/Innsbruck on the A12 and then via the B169. Your unforgettable stay with your own cozy holiday accommodation or apartment can begin! Get to know the holiday region and the mountain world anew.
Unique in every season
A holiday home or a vacation apartment from a private owner in the beautiful Zillertal. What could be better for a vacation? Weather and climate also regularly promise wonderful days in the best, quiet location. In summer, temperatures can reach up to 30 degrees Celsius. July is the warmest month with an average of 24 degrees. The winter months are often sunny as well. However, it is very cold. Perfect for a
ski vacation in Fügen. Snow-covered slopes in the ski area are guaranteed every winter. Off to the slopes - off to skiing! The high probability of snow attracts winter sports enthusiasts from all over the world year after year. Fog fields are most likely to form in autumn. But even in this season, holiday homes and vacation apartments from private owners are trendy. The lived tradition of the Almabtrieb and the beautiful play of colors of the deciduous forests create a fantastic mix. Around the harvest festival, the locals serve their delicious specialties. These thrive in the unique climate in Tyrol. Whether it's a winter vacation including skiing or a summer vacation and hiking.
Healing climate mine
A house or a cozy vacation apartment is an ideal starting point to admire the most magnificent sights of Tyrol up close. Various other types of accommodations and apartments can also be found regularly on offer - in the immediate vicinity of real highlights. Only 200 meters away from the highest point on the Hintertux Glacier, a unique journey begins. In the Natur Eis Palast, you can go from a viewing platform at the Frozen Wall (with a breathtaking view) via a safe path to the gates of this special palace. You can admire a breathtaking entrance hall bathed in mystical glacier blue. In addition, the sparkling ice crystals in the crystal chamber. Or the frozen glacier lake as a transition to the blue chamber. Equip yourself and visit this remarkable product of the local nature.
Experience the
Zillertal also on a steam train ride. You can get to know the traditions of the various quaint villages. The trains run between May and October. You can also encounter local traditions and specialties at the Zillertaler Heumilch-Sennerei. Here you can learn all about the daily work with cheese, milk, and processing. In the show cheese dairy museum, you can see exactly how cheese was produced 100 years ago. A special highlight awaits you in Schwaz: In the "mother of all mines," you can admire the masterpieces of mining technology. With a train ride, you can chug through the over 500-year-old Sigmund-Erbstollen. Experience the time of medieval mining up close and do something for your health at the same time! A special healing climate prevails in the mine - ideal for asthmatics.
Relive centuries and millennia
If you have found a beautiful, affordable holiday home or vacation apartment in Fügen, you can set out to explore the cultural treasures of the region. We recommend, for example, the Achenseer Museumswelt. A beautiful museum village has been created there, showing the local customs and the working and living conditions of the population. The development of institutions and clubs is also vividly illustrated. In the Jenbacher Museum, you can relive the history of the town, its nature, and winter sports. In 19 rooms, you will learn everything about the peculiarities of the region. Highlight: The Jenbacher Werke from silver mining to today - with three railways of different track widths. In addition, you can get to know the local natural world more closely in the natural history museum. In the alpine and winter sports exhibition, the focus is on the 4,000-year history of skiing and the history of mountain rescue. A significant cultural attraction in the beautiful Zillertal is also Tratzberg Castle. The history of the last 500 years has remained alive there. In this Renaissance jewel, you are a guest of Emperor Maximilian I, who had the ensemble built as a hunting lodge at the time. You can start your journey through time there with a ride on the "Tratzberg Express" tram.
Especially in the summer and winter months
With a vacation apartment or holiday home in a quiet location, get to know the culinary specialties in the Zillertal in
Austria! Fügen is ideally located for this. You can dine in typical Tyrolean style or enjoy international imports. Regional delicacies in many alpine huts or traditional inns include, for example, Zillertaler Krapfen, Graukassuppe, Kaspressknödel, or Kaiserschmarrn. From rustic to hearty and upscale, there is pretty much everything that should delight your palate. In winter, the après-ski bars are regularly excellently filled. Here you can enjoy not only the best regional cuisine but also good (live) music and lots of fun. In summer, the hosts also welcome you to the huts and snack stations. A wonderful opportunity to stop by after a hike on the beautiful hiking trails of the regions or a mountain bike tour.
