Country house located 3.2 km from the village of Penha Longa, where one finds cafés, restaurants, minimarkets, gasoline station, pharmacy, bank, butcher, etc.. In this village one can have a very cheap lunch in the restaurant, or order the take away to enjoy around the pool. Nearest town is Marco de Canavezes (12 km), it is 72 km from the airport of Porto and 60 km from the city of Porto. It is located in a calm and quiet area, ideal for relaxing. Implanted in a slope on top of the north bank of the Douro River, it enjoys an excellent river view and is only 5 minutes walk from a fluvial beach. The 19th century farmer house was renovated and extended in 2000. Inserted in a walled plot, it consists of three floors with a total living area of 180 m2 comprising 3 bedrooms (1 double, 1 twin, 1 single), 1 complete bathroom, 1 shower room, 2 living rooms (one double sofa bed available), and equipped kitchen. From two of the bedrooms one has a river view, and from every window in the house one enjoys a view either over the mountains or over the village. The house is fully furnished in ancient Portuguese style and is rented out with bed linen and bathroom towels. It is equipped with central heating (supplement fee) and fireplace in the lounge, as well as 2 TV sets, DVD, satellite TV and stereo. Outside, guests enjoy a lawn garden with garden furniture, BBQ, private swimming pool (8m x 4m), sunchairs, three patios and garage for one car. Parking place for a second car next to the garage. Price includes weekly maid service and change of bed linen and towels. Baby bed available on request. Weekly swimming pool cleaning (generally on Saturdays). Lawn mowing every fortnight (generally on Fridays between 06:30 and 10:30 hrs). Maid service available every second day against supplement fee (to be paid locally). Sleeps 7 persons, self catering.

Standing in one of the most fertile areas of the Douro region, Marco de Canaveses has acquired great importance as a centre of agricultural production, particularly wine and chestnuts, and all over the surrounding mountains are traces of its settlement throughout several millennia. Particularly noteworthy is the church designed by Siza Vieira (a world-famous Portuguese architect).
