••• CASA VALE DIN DEAL ••• ... these are 4 entirely different holiday houses and a mountain cottage in and around the village of Vale, directly at the foot of the Carpathians. On the one hand, far away from the latest trends of time, on the other hand just around the corner from Sibiu, the European Capital of Culture 2007. During the last seven years we have given the houses a complete overhaul or constructed them from scratch. With attention to detail all along, with respect to the traditional style of the area, but also with a view to modern building materials and housing needs. The result is an encounter of different ages and cultures in five oases of well being, each of them with their own flair, distinctive and special. The shepherd’s village of Vale is nestled into a hollow between the wooded mountains of the Carpathian foothills. Close to the European route 68/81, but still in the middle of nowhere. The holiday homes are located in the village’s less densely developed part or at the village edge facing the valley. No through traffic, in an absolutely peaceful spot, surrounded by a healthy mixed forest. We rent each house individually and only complete, independent of the occupancy. ••• CASA CRINA - the rustic new construction with spacious rooms and a terraced garden, for up to 8 persons ••• CASA PELU - the former farmhouse with extended loft and high terrace, for up to 6 people ••• CASA NICU - the old house of 120 years with the appropriate historic flair, for 2 persons ••• CASA ZOLLO I - the light-filled house on the slope of the hill with panoramic views in all directions, for up to 6 persons ••• CASA ZOLLO II - one-room-apartment with terrace in the house at the hill, for 2 persons ••• COZO FANTU - shepherd’s cottage in the mountain meadows, for 4 persons If you are interested in current reservations, exact prices and photos please take a look at our homepage Casa-Vale.net _________________________________________________________ ••• CASA CRINA ••• The cherry on the cake of the complex features 200m² of living space and high-quality interior. The rustic new building was built on the layout of an abandoned farm's barn. On the mezzanine floor there is a 50m² living room with an open kitchen and a sanitary room with separate entrance. Here you can make yourselves comfortable in three seating areas in front of the fireplace. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering, with a fridge combo, dishwasher, gas stove, coffee machine, microwave, toaster, electric kettle, spices, etc.. On request, we provide you with breakfast, traditional menus or products from the village. There is an outside and an inside stair case leading up to the four bright rooms (15-18 m²) in the loft. They are furnished with a double bed, shower room, and a TV set (Astra-Sat). Additionally, we offer a mobile internet connection. The rooms offer amazing views of the village church and over wooded mountains. From the living room you step onto a spacious terrace facing south (30 m²) with 20 seats. Stairs lead down from here to the enclosed garden bordered by a creek. We laid out the garden in tree terraces: on the top level, there is a stonewalled barbeque space with a seating area, in the middle there is a small lawn, and the bottom level accommodates up to three cars. The total garden area is grown with flowers, various fruit trees, and wine. Sanitary installations, as well as the complete interiors in the house were selected with great care and are fairly new (Sept. 2010), including kitchen equipment, mattresses, and linens. All furniture, windows, doors, and stairs where consistently made to measure. The solar-assisted central heating is backed up threefold. Whenever you aren’t firing the waterbearing fireplace in the living room, a gasfired water heater and/ or electrical infrared panels will start up at no additional costs for you. The property lies on a slope in the less densely developed part of the village, facing towards wooded mountains. Leaving the garden behind and following the course of the creek for a few hundred meters, you already find yourself on the way up to the mountain meadows surrounded by a healthy mixed forest. • For up to 8 persons • 4 rooms, 4 shower rooms • Large living room with eat-in kitchen and fireplace • Sanitary room with washing machine, dryer and WC • South-facing terrace • Garden with barbecue and parking lot • Minimum stay: 5 days • Rates: Euro 75 - 118 • 10% discount from day 15 We answer to your email inquiries within two days. _________________________________________________________ ••• We offer more than just accommodation ••• On request, we cook and provide you with farm produce from the village such as fresh milk straight from the udder, goat or sheep cheese, forest honey, homemade jam and Zakusca, pickled cucumbers, peppers, cauliflower, wine and liquor. • Pickup service from the train station or airport Sibiu including • Car rental • Breakfast, lunch and dinner • Osteopathic treatment • Phone, UMTS stick, laptop, Romanian SIM card • Shopping before your arrival • On request: riding horse, donkey cart rides for children, cot Tip: our refuge (Cozo Fantu) in the high meadows. Very basic standard, but with lots of fresh mountain air for stressed lungs. A spring emerges a stone's throw away, the trees are full of cherries, and you can buy cheese and milk from the shepherd next door. On request, ascent with a horse cart and raditional shepherd stew over an open fire. We foster a climate of openness and equality-based relationships. _________________________________________________________

A tarmac road grazes the village, but in large parts, there are cobblestone roads and dirt trails leading up into the hills. Sometimes you will feel as though time had stopped 100 years ago. Here, traditional structures and lowbrow hospitality have survived the advance of modern times. Horses, cows and poultry are still part of the village landscape, and the farmers take up their scythes and plant corn, potatoes and vegetables to preserve them for winter. There is a small shop in Vale. The town of Saliste 3 km away offers more shops, restaurants and an open market. Whatever is missing here can be found at the Zibins market, in retail stores or department chain stores such as Real, Carrefour and Lidl in Sibiu, just 20 km away. The open-air Marmelada swimming pool is just across the hill 20 minutes walk away, and so is the first of five lakes in the valley. In 15 minutes you have left the village below you, passing dozens of hand-carved wooden sculptures on the Poiana Soarelui (sunny glade) on your ascent, to arrive after less than two hours at the mountain meadows, with a unique view across the vastness of the Transylvanian Plain. In good weather, you get sweeping views all the way to Sibiu and the Muntii Fagaras mountain range beyond it. The European Capital of Culture Sibiu, is situated 20 kms away from Vale. During the summer it opens up to visitors and regularly organizes events from cabaret and theater through open-air concerts, to exhibitions of local crafts guilds on the central Great Ring. The historic city center, as well as city walls and fortified towers have been largely restored. _________________________________________________________

Vale , Sibiu , Romania

Some say it looks as though time were frozen, and that a great deal of things aren’t perfect, the culture seems to be alien, and nature is unique and untouched. It may occur to you that this is the charm of the extraordinary - before being run over by the advance of civilization. If you like the view from the heights... …and if you want to experience the unique mountain scenery and the expanse of the valleys further below, you are in your right spot here. You don’t need to look far for original places in the midst of pristine nature, and your ascent starts at the right at the village edge. You hike through flora and fauna deemed to be singular in Europe. If you don’t watch your step, you will fall over lizards and salamanders and have the mountain goats laugh at you! If you wish to explore the surroundings, become acquainted with the country and its people, or delve into the country’s history in the face of old stonework, this is your spot, too! Robbery and waylaying make for stories from times of politically volatile systems, and Count Dracula obviously exists only in movies. Most people in these parts are open-minded and friendly if met with respect. The city of Sibiu, founded by German-Flemish settlers in 1150, lies just around the corner and to this day is a fountain of cultural diversity. The medieval fortifications enbrace an old town center with historic alleys and restaurants, cafés and bars, some of which are set in vaulted cellars or courtyards. The countryside is spotted with ancient fortified churches, Dacian ruins, abandoned mines and caves, and every town boasts an open market where you can buy your supplies of garden vegetables, honey, sheep’s cheese and, at times, medicinal herbs. The Roman-made Transalpina, being the highest trafficable road across the Carpathians, makes a worthwhile day trip. On the other side, you dip into the southern climate zone of Walachia, from where you make your way back through the Olt valley, the only north-south route through the mountains. Anyone who doesn’t stop here must be in a real hurry. Be sure to find peace and relaxation here. Our houses are located on the village outskirts. Though in autumn the silence may be disturbed by the occasional rattle of a chainsaw, we daresay that your perception of peace and tranquility will change soon. You might find that it includes the songs of the birds in the morning, the roosters crowing, the donkey’s brays and all the other distinctive sounds. By leaving behind the advantages and disadvantages of civilization, you can hang ten and experience new thoughts popping up in your mind out of nowhere. Your temporary home will provide you a cozy ambience in fresh mountain air. You’ll be sleeping like a bear in his den. No matter which way you turn, you’ll experience amazing things, usually things you never expected … _________________________________________________________
