Amsterdam, the old city centre Amsterdam is one of the most colourful cities of Europe with its 750.000 inhabitants and many different nationalities. It doesn’t really matter in which area you’ll be staying as all areas are easily connected with each other by public transport. So it’s not important to stay particularly in the centre. To experience different parts of the city, it’s even better to go walking from one district to another or as the Dutch prefer, by bicycle. In the heart of the city you will find the old centre and the famous ‘Red Light District’. On the other side of this inner centre you will find the ‘Jordaan’. Most museums are located in the ‘Vondelpark-area’/ Museum Quarter’. The areas ‘Oud-west’ and the ‘Pijp’ are found in western Amsterdam The ‘Plantage-area ‘ ( Artis Zoo) is to be found on the east side of the outer centre ring. A little bit further is Docklands, a group of islands, situated North-East of the Central Station, where in summertime everybody enjoys the wonderful beach located at the Ijsselmeer. This beach can be reached within 10 minutes by tram from Central Station.
