Whichford , Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire , West Midlands , Great Britain
Whichford is a quiet Cotswold village in the very south of Warwickshire, with houses grouped around the village green, close to the borders of Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire. It predates mediaeval times and is mentioned in the Domesday book. It has a fine Norman church and a number of other splendid period buildings of local Cotswold stone, but no shop. It is also home to the Whichford pottery, famous for its Terracotta garden pots, and to the Norman Knight, a welcoming free house, which serves simple lunches. There is plenty of scope for eating out in local pubs, restaurants and Wyatts Farm shop, three miles away, which also sells a wide range of food.
Whichford is situated near to Chipping Norton, and Shipston on Stour: midway between Oxford and Stratford Upon Avon. It is an ideal base for a touring holiday with all the prime attractions of the Cotswold area such as Woodstock, Burford, Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water and Chipping Campden within 25 miles of the village. The ancient Rollright Stones are 3 - 4 miles from the village. Well known gardens such as Hidcote, Kiftsgate and Batsford Aboretum, and stately homes such as Blenheim Palace, Upton House, Sezincote, Snowshill and Charlecote Park are all an easy drive away.
Trains go to London from Banbury, Oxford and Moreton-in-Marsh.
Hook Norton steam powered brewery is well worth a visit.
There are several golf courses, a riding stable and fishing in the area. An excellent area for walking, it is on the newly established Macmillan Way and a wide network of centuries old footpaths linking the villages. There are also a number of pleasant walks around Whichford Woods which overlook the village.
