The house is single storey and detached. It is equipped to a high standard. There are two bedrooms, two bathrooms, fitted kitchen, lounge and dining area. Outside there are two terraces, swimming pool and outdoor kitchen with dining facilities. There are three entry points, a front door, a kitchen door and French doors in the main bedroom, handy for the pool. The lounge/dining room features picture windows with views across the valley. It is tastefully furnished with comfortable sofas, dining table and chairs for five persons, television, including Sky digital, hi-fi system, wood burning stove, air-conditioning/heating wall mounted unit.
The lounge/dining room is open plan with excellent light and wonderful views. The kitchen is fully fitted and equipped with full size gas hob and electric fan oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, electric kettle, toaster, coffee maker, iron and ironing board, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. The master bedroom is furnished with Queen size bed, built-in wardrobe, dressing table, full-length mirror, ensuite bathroom with shower, vanity unit and toilet, air- conditioning/heating. The twin bedroom: is furnished with two single beds, a double wardrobe, and bedside table, air-conditioning/heating. An additional bed, a fold up Zed bed, is available for a fifth person. The guest bathroom had a full sized bath, shower over, vanity unit, toilet, bidet.The air conditioning/heating units in the living room area and bedrooms and an efficient wood burning stove ensure comfortable temperatures in all seasons at low cost. Solar panels provide hot water at a pressure ideal for showering. The covered swimming pool is economically heated by both electric heat pump and solar energy. The house is decorated with many original works of art, and has a library to suit most tastes in the entry hall. All bedlinen and towels are provided.
A path for the access of wheel chair users connects the two terraces. Terraces: there are terraces on either side of Casa Sofia; the larger terrace, around three sides of the swimming pool, is equipped with hardwood garden furniture, parasols, and sun-loungers. The other smaller area, particularly pleasant as a suntrap in late autumn, winter and early spring, is situated outside the kitchen door and is furnished with a table and chairs. This smaller terrace near the kitchen door is ideal for breakfasting etc. Swimming pool: The heated swimming pool for use in all seasons with panoramic views from the poolside, includes technically advanced water treatment which prevents skin and eye irritation.
Poolside kitchen: this overlooks the swimming pool with mountains in the background. Features of these spacious facilities include:- fitted kitchen; gas barbecue; electric oven; microwave; refrigerator; dining furniture; music system; original paintings; wide opening doors; hand-crafted, natural stone pillars and wooden pergola with climbing passiflora and grape vine to provide shade; hand-crafted natural stone mosaic floors and walls. Secure parking is available for several cars. Wifi broadband internet access is available.

Casa Sofia is situated in a very attractive, elevated, secluded, rural setting amidst an orchard of almond trees in hilly countryside. From the house there are stunning panoramic views across a beautiful valley visited by a wide variety of birds, including birds of prey. Access to the house is excellent on sealed roads. Villanueva De La Concepción is 6 km away,a 10 minute drive. The nearest bar/restaurant, which is highly recommended by the owners, is 2km away at Pasteleros, a short car journey, or a pleasant 20 minute walk. El Torcal National Park with its outstanding natural limestone sculptural scenery, and various excellent walking routes, lies above Villanueva and is 15 minutes away by car. Beyond El Torcal the beautiful historic town of Antequera with its many ancient churches, architecture and prehistoric caves is a 25 minute car journey from Villanueva. El Chorro Gorge, Cordoba and the White Towns, and, further afield, Seville, Granada and Gibraltar are day trips by car. Malaga and Malaga Airport are approximately 45 minutes by car and the drive to Costa del Sol resorts takes about one hour.
The location is quiet, tranquil and peaceful. The views and sunsets are stunning from the house, outside kitchen and swimming pool. The owners, Nalini & Barry Cook, live in the nearest house, 80m away, on the hillside above Casa Sofia. Nalini Cook offers painting classes at the house in her studio, terrace and surrounding countryside. The house is ideally situated for local walks, and generally for enjoying the deights of the natural surroundings.

Villanueva De la Concepción is a lovely, friendly village of 3000 inhabitants. It has traditional bars, restaurants, supermarkets, shops, banks and other facilities, such as the new municipal swimming pool, a large pool in grass lawn surroundings with its open air bar with views towards the Torcal. It is a safe, easy-going place in which to enjoy the delights of the frequent traditional festivals and events that take place in rural Andalucia, such as the feria in the middle of August. There is an open air market on Mondays. All the bar/restaurants offer good value meals and drinks; our particular favourites are Bar Torfa and Rincon Del Villa. The English speaking bar, Xebar, offers free unlimited wifi access. Other essential facilities include chemist\'s, cash machines, and medical clinic.

Energy saving: in order to save wasting energy, we have reduced our rates, but now charge guests for the electricity they consume while staying at Casa Sofia at the same price we pay the utility company, at present €0,18 per unit (kwh).
