La Maison du Curé was the house where the priests of Cormatin lived. The house was built in 1823 and has recently been renovated but many of the old features have been retained. There are three bedrooms which sleep six people. In one room is a double and a child's bed, in another a small double bed and in the third a double and a single bed. It is ideal for families. A cot and highchair are provided. The lounge has a 82cm TV with English satellite channels, also a DVD player. The kitchen is fully equipped with electric oven, hob, microwave and washing machine. There is gas central heating in all the rooms and the lounge and dining rooms have electric log effect fires. The garden is very secluded and is provided with a table, chairs and umbrella. There is a BBQ for use on the terrace.

Cormatin is in southern Burgundy on the D981 about 23 miles south of Chalon-sur-Saône and 22 miles north of Mâcon. It is very convenient for Taizé which is about 5 minutes away by car. There are three services a day where the public are made most welcome and a shop which sell the pottery made by the monks. About 15 minutes away is Cluny which used to be the religious centre of Europe, even more important than Rome. The remains of the magnificant Abbey can still be seen.

Cormatin is well supplied with two boulangeries, a good butcher, a tabac, a grocery shop and a pharmacy. There are plenty of places to eat. Cormatin is renowned for its beautiful and original 14th century chateau and gardens which are open to the public. There is a thriving pottery and craft industry which is displayed in the old textile mill. It is an excellent base for walking, cycling and rollerblading as it is situated on the Voie Verte which was originally a railway track. The river Grosne becomes a lake at Cormatin and the surrounding park is the venue for many musical events during the summer.

Additional Information

We provide an ideal base for visitors to Taizé, the famous ecunemical centre run by monks to promote understanding of the different faiths.We now run our full weeks from Saturday to Saturday. Apart from the high season we can cater for Taizé weekends where groups of people attend from Thursday to Sunday.Please ask for our reduced rates if you need a part week.
