We now offer free WiFi! La Maison du Curé was the house of the priests of Cormatin. The house was built in 1823 and now provides comfortable holiday accommodation for 5/6 people. There are three bedrooms with washbasins. In one room is a double and a child's bed, in another a small double bed and in the third a double and a single bed. It is ideal for families. A cot and highchair are provided. The lounge has a 82cm TV with French digital and English satellite channels, also a DVD player. The WiFi is free. The kitchen is fully equipped with electric oven, hob, microwave and washing machine. There is gas central heating in all the rooms and the lounge and dining rooms have electric log effect fires. The garden is very secluded and is provided with a table, chairs and cantilever sun umbrella. There is a BBQ for use on the terrace. In the garage are five bicycles and a table tennis table.

Cormatin is in southern Burgundy on the D981 about 23 miles south of Chalon-sur-Saône and 22 miles north of Mâcon. It is very convenient for Taizé which is about 5 minutes away by car. There are three services a day where the public are made most welcome. A shop sells pottery made by the monks. About 12km south is Cluny which used to be the religious centre of Europe in medieval times. The Abbey was destroyed during the French Revolution but its grandeur can still be appreciated 8km to the north is the medieval town of St Gengoux-le-National with its lively markets and good restaurants.

Cormatin is well supplied with two boulangeries, a good butcher, a tabac, a grocery shop and a pharmacy. There are several restaurants and cafes. Cormatin is renowned for its beautiful and original 14th century chateau and gardens which are open to the public. There is a thriving pottery and craft industry which is displayed in the old textile mill by the river. It is an excellent base for walking, cycling and rollerblading as it is situated on the Voie Verte which was originally a railway track. Cormatin and the surrounding villages are the venue for many musical events during the summer.

We provide an ideal base for visitors to Taizé, the famous ecunemical centre run by monks to promote understanding of the different faiths. We generally offer full weeks from Saturday to Saturday. Apart from the high season we are happy to be flexible about arrival and departure dates but there is a minimum payment of 225 euros (3 nights). There is no cleaning charge but we would expect the house to be left reasonably clean and tidy. There is free WiFi and free telephone calls to most European landlines.
