Located between the Marais Poitevin known as the Green Venice and the forest, not far from La Rochelle, our gite, very comfortable for 6 persons (4 adults and 2 children), is located in the peaceful setting of a small south Vendée Hamlet. The ideal base for exploring and enjoying the Vendee Region. A rustic cottage fully restored to its original appearance, with exposed stone walls, wooden beams and wooden floor and tiled ground floor. It is furnished with antique French country style comfortable furniture. Ground floor : a large living room with a fireplace, a fully fitted modern kitchen, bathroom and separate WC. Utility room. One double bedroom with en suite shower room. (bed 1.60 mt wide) Upstairs : a double bedroom with one 1.40 mt wide bed, one mezzanine bedroom with two single beds, each 1.20 mt wide. Facilities included : Chimney, TV, videorecorder/player, DVD player, telephone, mini hi-fi, games, books and video cassettes. Dishwasher, microwaves oven, full oven, washing machine, deep freezer For a restful and enjoyable stay, you find a private garden, a stone patio with garden furniture, a large outdoor dining area with a purpose built chimney-barbecue, a private garden. 2 mountain bicycles for adults and 3 mountain bicycles for children are available free of charge. Bathroom towels, house linen, and bed linen is provided, the beds are made prior to arrival. A cot, highchair and baby bath can be provided on request

The cottage is situated in the quiet and hilly village of Saint Michel le Cloucq, above Fontenay le Comte, in a peaceful street. The village is on the edge of the forest with many places for walking and cycling. Only 50 km from the renowned sailing part and beautiful city of La Rochelle and the beaches of the Atlantic. The islands of Ré, Aix or Oléron are just off the coast. Few kilometers away there is Le Marais Poitevin, also known as the Green Venice, with its green canals for idyllic boating and fishing. The river Vendee ideal for fishing is less than 5 km away. Approx an hour away is Futuroscope, the science and technology theme park near Poitiers The Puy du Fou historic theme park with its day attractions, the summer evening concerts and displays is within 60 km. Nearby amenities include restaurants, bars, tobacconist, new stand and a church and the village centre, which are within walking distance. Fontenay le Comte is within 5 km, it has all the amenities and facilities and all things you can find in the large town.

St Michel le Cloucq has a bar/paper shop, an auberge restaurant (a short distance from the house) and a doctor. Several travelling bread and grocery vans come to the village almost every day. There are several good restaurants within a reasonable distance and the owners will be happy to give you a small taste of some of the regional specialities here. The village is on the edge of a large forest and there are lots of places to walk and cycle. Less than 5 kms from the house is the River Vendée where you can fish and there is good fishing and boating on the canals of Le Marais Poitevin (12 kms). Lac de Chassenon has a beach with supervised swimming
