Gabella is an old Custom House originally built in the 16th century. It is in a wonderful position, a few steps from the lake and from the old harbor of Maccagno that you can reach through a private footpath. In 2002 the stone building was totally restored maintaining its original shape and using high quality and traditional materials. The building now consists of 10 units all different in shape and size. Gabella is in a peaceful and quiet position but at the same time everything is at walking distance: the lake, the village, climbing walls, sailing club, restaurants, pizzeria, bars, shops, a little railway station, beaches, playground for children and tennis courts. It is the ideal location for people who love the lake activities and want to spend a relaxing holiday in a small, typical Italian village.

A few steps from the "Gabella House" you can find a beautiful pizzeria with a terrace. A recently opened design restaurant and a wine bar that also sells regional products (cheeses, cold cuts, regional wines, etc). In the village you can find all kind of services: supermarket, bank, post office, pharmacy, bus stop, train station, harbour, modern art museum and everything can by reached by foot from "Gabella House". The boat service is available only during the summer (for the rest of the year the nearest harbour is in Luino) and it connects Maccagno with Luino, the villages on the other side of the lake (Cannero, Cannobio), Swiss cities (Ascona, Locarno) and Isole Borromee.
