Odelouca is a conservation area and is ideal for bird watchers and walkers. There are 3 bars and 1 restaurant within walking distance and many other bars & restaurants on the way up to the Monchique mountains a 15-20 minute drive away. The nearest golf course Morgado Do Reguengo is a 5 minute drive away and there are many other golf courses within a 30 minute drive. There are 2 theme parks, Slide & Splash and Aqualand within 20 minutes. Zoo Marine is approx 30 minutes. Big Game fishing trips are offered at the marina and riverside in Portimao, a 10-15 minute drive away. The villa overlooks the river Odelouca which runs through the valley. The river is tidal and joins the River Arade which flows out to the sea in Portimao. The local restaurant owners catch fresh fish from it, which fish-lovers will enjoy.

Silves was once the capital of the Algarve and was still referred to in the beginning of the 19th Century as the “Kingdom of the Algarve”. So much history is attached to Silves and its surrounding area that only a book would do it justice! Standing proudly on a hill Silves can be traced back to existing some 1.000 BC. Evidence shows that it was already a place of note in Roman times but it really became an important place during its occupation in the early 11th Century by the Moors.
