Donegal Railway Heritage Centre
Visit the Donegal Railway Heritage Centre and find out just what it was like to travel on the narrow gauge railways of County Donegal. Stretching from Derry and Strabane to Glenties and Ballyshannon, the County Donegal Railway provided the essential transport for farmers and fishermen, businessmen and builders, housewives and school children-everyone who needed to get about. The Donegal Railway Heritage Centre, which included an historical presentation artefacts and sales shop is dedicated to reawakening interest in Donegal's railway past, to bring that past to a whole new audience and giving it the living, durable worthwhile tribute is deserves.
Donegal Craft Village
Donegal Craft Village is now in its eighteenth year as a centre for arts and crafts in Donegal. Its ongoing attraction is the opportunity to meet directly with the various artists at work and to view the individual displays of their finished pieces, exclusively for sale in the village.
Beautifully landscaped with ample parking, picnic tables and a coffee shop, the village consists of a cluster of six workshops around a central courtyard.
Donegal Castle
Situated in the centre of the town, the Castle was built by the O'Donnell chieftain in the 15th Century. The Castle is furnished throughout and includes Persian rugs and French tapestries. Information panels chronicle the history of the castle owners from the O'Donnell Chieftains to the Brook family.
Donegal Abbey
Also to be seen in Donegal Town does the wife of Red Hugh O’Donnell found the ruins of the Donegal Abbey in 1474. It was here that the Franciscans began the compilation of the annals of the Four Masters, a vast history of Ireland extending back to the time of Noah's Grandmother.
