We are the antidote to the shady tourist traps called 'hotels' that run package holidays to this wonderful country. We offer you the chance to live close to the local people, gaining insights into their culture & way of life that you can not get any other way. We have experience of looking after guests here since 1994 & know where to get anything you may want at local prices. We have adapted our accommodation to now comprise of 3 apartments. We still have our separate kitchen building and continue to provide excellent evening meals for those on Half Board. On our website (realgambia.net) there is a lot more information. Real value for money; real culture, not the fabrications served up in hotels; real people, genuine gentle folk who will offer you real friendship & real life, no insincere pampering with us. Unlike hotels we look after you extremely well and can tailor make your experience here, but we offer you the 'real' Africa, not a tourist playground. We are called 'Real Africa' because we are the alternative to the psuedo stuff you get from the usual 'Luxury Safari' or hotel holiday. You will appreciate your time here, being treated as a visiting friend rather than just as a tourist. If you want 5 star luxury and just a beach holiday, then go to the hotels. We offer so much more, to those discerning few who are able to step out of their usual comfort zone and instilled attitudes, just a little. There are no people more friendly than the Gambians. Cheerful, relaxed and generous of spirit, all our guests have enjoyed their warmth and renowned hospitality. This was composed in English. Our place is in a quiet, small street, in a part of town just beginning to be developed. Ten minutes from the best beach in the area. Safe for swimming, not congested with tourists, miles of sand & mangrove, a few beach cafes & nothing else but nature. We are within walking distance of anything you may want. Only 20 minutes from the airport or the capital, Banjul, where there are museums, markets & the bustling, international harbour. Only 5 minutes from the famous Katchikally crocodile pool. Close to shops, botanical gardens, pretty much everything really! It's also easy to get transport to see the rest of the country. The apartments are simple, but sufficient, secure & comfortable. We have a manger & his wife living on the premises they are your hosts, friends, guides & security.

Bakau is one of the major towns of the country and the most experienced in catering to the tourist trade. Small enough to walk around & find all you may want in a very relaxed way. Also safe to walk through at night to enjoy the local bars with great live shows etc.. On the coast with excellent beaches, lively markets and a great night life. We are situated here because our guests can really relax here and enjoy the quiet at the guest house, but so easily walk a little to find anything else they could possibly want.Arrival and distances

Mostly people come to us for their annual 2 week holiday on a full board basis [singles £200 couples £350 per week] & enjoy our food made from local fresh produce. However, we can accommodate other lengths of stay & you could be self catering in our small apartments. We have years of experience helping people have a very positive first time in Africa.
