Apartamento Azul is a fantastic brand new apartment right in the heart of Praia da Luz. It is incredibly spacious at 156m², has two large bedrooms and can sleep up to 6 people (plus cot). The apartment is the largest in an exclusive new development of 8 apartments in the Rua Direita with their own pool and fabulous roof terrace with stunning views in all directions. The apartments also have their own locked parking area under the building.
It is only a very short 5 minute walk to the lovely family beach at Praia da Luz and there are supermarkets only 3 minutes walk away and many restaurants within a 5 minute walk, one literally on the doorstep!
The apartment building can be accessed on foot by a key operated door from the street or by car via an electric garage door with code from the road. The pedestrian door has an intercom and buzzer system to the apartment for allowing guests in.
Apartamento Azul is one of four apartments off the second floor landing and its front door opens into a very large, entrance hall. This in common with the whole of the apartment has a tiled floor. The entrance hall has doors to both bedrooms, one bathroom and the lounge/dining room.
Bedroom 1 (4.1x3m) has a double bed, bedside tables and lamps, air- conditioning/heating and a window with views to the sea and cliffs, to the front of the apartment. There are also sliding patio doors leading to a front facing terrace(1.9x4.3m) which benefits from the morning sun and has views over the buildings opposite to the sea and cliffs. There is an archway to the dressing area with a large built in wardrobe with hanging, shelves, drawers and mirror. There would be ample space in the dressing area for a child to sleep on a fold out bed or cot. Through the dressing area is the door to the en-suite bathroom with bath and over bath shower, basin, bidet and toilet.
Bedroom 2 (3.9x5m). A very large bedroom with twin beds, bedside cabinets and lamps and air-conditioning/heating. There are large fitted wardrobes with hanging, shelves, drawers and mirrors. This room is easily able to accommodate one or two additional folding beds. There is a window to the front aspect with views to the sea and cliffs and a sliding patio door to the second front terrace (1.9x5m) which again shares these views and gets the morning sun. This terrace can also be accessed from the lounge.
Bathroom with bath, over bath shower, basin, bidet and toilet.
Lounge/Dining Room (7.9x5.1m) A huge, light airy room with patio doors and terraces to both the front and rear aspects. The front terrace is the same one that is also accessed from bedroom 2 (1.9x5m). It is equipped with a light and a table and chairs and is a lovely place to breakfast, looking out to sea and watching the comings and goings in the street below. The rear terrace (2.9x2.2m) is accessed from the dining area of the lounge/diner. It overlooks the pool one floor below and has a light and a table and chairs. The sun is on this terrace later in the day and it makes a great place to barbeque, especially as the kitchen window opens onto this terrace so that food and plates etc can be easily passed in and out. A charcoal barbeque is supplied on this terrace.
Within the lounge/dining room there are, two two-seater and one three-seater sofas. One of these is a sofa-bed. There is a large dining table with 6 chairs, a coffee table, shelving unit with CD/tape player and radio and a selection of books, a TV unit with 28” widescreen TV, DVD and digital satellite unit (free to air digital UK channels). There is also air-conditioning/heating and two free standing up-lighters.
Kitchen (4x2.35m). The kitchen is accessed via a wide archway from the lounge/dining area. It is modern, fully fitted and well equipped for 6 people including some plastic plates and cups etc for poolside or picnic use. There is a gas/electric hob and electric oven, extractor, microwave, washing machine kettle, toaster and large fridge/freezer. There is a large cupboard off the kitchen largely for the maid’s use holding spare bed linen etc, but this also holds an iron and ironing board.
Garage Within the large ground floor garage Apartamento Azul had its own separate locked area with parking for 2 cars. Also stored in that area are 4 reclining chairs for guests use by the pool or on the roof terrace as they wish.
Swimming Pool The swimming pool terrace and kidney shaped pool (approx8x4m) are located on the floor below Apartamento Azul giving easy access, but also privacy. There are under-water lights and poolside spotlights for evening use. The pool area is fully enclosed. With only 8 apartments in the development and 4 of those being 1 bedroom or studios (the other 4 two bedrooms) the pool area should never be too busy.
Roof Terrace The roof terrace is a major feature of these apartments-we fell in love with it straight away. It is very large and has the most spectacular views over Luz, the cliffs and sea. The outlook is stunning in all directions. There are lights on the roof terrace for evening use. Not only does the roof terrace give fantastic views, but it also is an ideal sun-bathing spot with all day sun even out of main season when the sun is lower in the sky and some places may lose their sun.
The permanent beds in the apartment accommodate four people and there are two folding beds supplied that can be used to sleep 2 additional people, either one per bedroom or both in bedroom 2. Alternatively you may prefer to accommodate 2 additional people on the double sofa bed in the lounge.
The whole apartment is double glazed and the windows and patio doors have shutters.
Apartamento Azul is on the 1st/2nd floor-this may sound crazy, but as the apartments are on a hill it is on the 2nd floor from the street, but only the 1st floor above the pool. The 2nd floor is the top floor so there can be no problem with noisy upstairs neighbours. The water heating is by gas fired volcano heater which heats the water as it is used so that there is always a ready supply of hot water.
All bed linen and towels for apartment use are supplied, but please bring towels for poolside and beach use.
The apartment will be available for your use from 14.00 on the day of arrival and should be vacated by 10.00 on departure day.
The maid will clean twice a week, change-over day and half way through the week, and change the linen weekly.
Cot and high chair hire can be organized for you. . The prices for hire of these items are: cot £22 per week, high chair £7 per week.
A food and supplies delivery from a local supermarket can be arranged for your arrival. They make no charge for delivery, but as a result will only accept orders of a value of £22 or over.

Praia da Luz is a 5-10 minute drive into the lovely western Algarve town of Lagos with its many shops, restaurants, marina and more sophisticated nightlife. There are many golf clubs along this part of the Algarve and the closest is a 5 minute drive between Luz and Lagos. There are many other activities in the immediate area e.g. horse riding, tennis, deep sea fishing or grotto viewing boat excursions. Slightly further afield, heading east, but still within a 40 minute drive there are 2 water slide parks, zoo-marine, a zoo, a large modern shopping mall. If you instead head west then the south westerly tip of Europe, Cape St Vincent and the nearby nautical town of Sagres are a 30 minute drive. Also heading west are the spectacular Atlantic beaches of the West coast with their miles of wide sandy beaches and huge rolling breakers which make them ideal for surfing and body boarding and several of these beaches have surf schools.
Praia da Luz , Algarve , Portugal
Praia da Luz is a great family resort towards the western end of the Portuguese Algarve coast. It has a lovely sandy beach approximately half a mile long and backed by a palm tree lined promenade. At the eastern end of the beach there are spectacular cliffs and at low tide there are rock pools that adults and children alike will love to explore. At the western end of the beach the sand gives way to large flattened rocks where those who like to lie by the sea, but avoid the sand can relax. Praia da Luz has plenty of restaurants which range from cafes and beach bars through bar/restaurants and bistros to plush restaurants. There are several supermarkets and other shops and boutiques, a chemist, bank, internet café, post office and a medical centre where good English is spoken. There is one small nightclub on the sea-front.
As Apartamento Azul is so centrally located and close to the beach, shops and restaurants it is by no means essential to hire a car and taxi transfer from and to the airport can be arranged. Car hire however will open up the possibility of exploring further afield.
