This is not just a place for setting your headquarters and spend your day hanging around the east of Sicily: it would be a pity, because it is a wonderful place to stay, ideal if you need to slow down and relax. This is a typical single-storey townhouse on the south slope of Mount Etna, dating back to the 19th century. It has been extended, refurbished and adapted to more modern needs, but most original elements have been maintained, as well as the original shape and orientation along an internal courtyard (invisible from the street). There is plenty of space, a whole 200 sq mt: sleeps 4 in the two bedrooms, but one of the two living-rooms is equipped to become a comfortable extra bedroom for 2 more people or 3 kids. Apart from the courtyard, there is a 10 sq mt terrace, in the sun all the day through. Part of the furniture is original, the rest of the furniture is wooden or wickerwood, sofas are in leather and the internal doors have been hand decorated by a local craftsman. The external doors have been changed and are modern. The house has been decorated with old objects and pictures related with village life and craftmanship, which were originally found in the house, collected or actually used by my family.

The motorway is 10 km away, in case you also want to visit the east of Sicily. Distances: downtown Catania: 15 km, Taormina 40 km, Siracusa 75 km, Noto 110 km, Piazza Armerina (Villa del Casale) 85 km, Ragusa Ibla and Modica 90 km, Agrigento (Valle dei Templi) 135 km.

The area is quiet: you do not hear any noise from the street apart from the belltower clock and a car passing by now and then. Within walking distance, you have: small restaurants, a couple of bars and pubs, grocer’s and local food sellers, all within 300 metres from your door. Moreover, there is a wide nature reserve with a pine trees forest (800 m)and all around the village the landscape is typically a cold lava countryside. You can make an entirely car-free holiday up here: short walks or bicycle trips along scenic routes are possible from this house to enjoy the beautiful views of the top of Mount Etna and on the gulf of Catania. If you want to see more of the east of Sicily, you can also hire a local driver and guide offering you a 50% discount on day trips by car. In the summer, this area is less crowded and offers a much cooler climate than coastal towns, especially in the evenings. It is a mountain place, but Sicily is magic and the nearest beach is just 20 km away! In winter, platter lift at Etna Sud station is 15 km upslope.
