A beautiful accommodation

Everything just fit here. The location is perfect for hiking (in summer, just a stone's throw from the outdoor pool). The narrow-gauge railway is a few minutes' walk away, as is a lovely bakery. The property with a large garden at the edge of the forest invites relaxation, and the house is equipped with everything you need. We felt completely comfortable. Mr. Hauser himself was always reachable and gave us great tips for the area. Here, you can tell that someone cares about their guests. Once again, thank you very much for that. We will definitely come back.
PS: Yes, the stairs to the upper floor are a bit adventurous. ?

Very well-equipped house in a great location (elevated above Hainewalde). With our dogs, we had many outing options and sights (e.g. Görlitz, Zittau, Oybin, etc.) in the nearby and wider surroundings. The landlords are also very pleasant and always approachable.

Top equipment and quiet location

We spent a week as a family of 5 in a good quiet location in Olbersdorf. The holiday home was clean and well-equipped. Shopping facilities are within walking distance. The train station with the historic Zittau narrow-gauge railway is reachable on foot. The little house is a great starting point for many attractions in Upper Lusatia. The landlords are very friendly, nice, and had prepared our arrival very well. We all felt very comfortable and would love to come back.

A highlight for a vacation in the Zittau Mountains is the baroque monastery St. Marienthal in the Neisse Valley. The ensemble includes a monastery church, a fountain with a Trinity column, a historic sawmill, the Cross and Michael's Chapel, the former mill, and the vineyard. It is the oldest Cistercian nunnery in Germany (founded in 1234). 16 nuns look forward to your visit. Numerous mountains and viewpoints characterize the landscape in the Upper Lusatia. Lausche is the highest mountain of the range (793 meters) and is a sharp volcanic cone. From the summit terrace, you have a breathtaking view. The border to the Czech Republic runs over the summit. Hochwald is the second highest mountain. Here, you also have the opportunity to stay overnight in a rustic mountain hut. Southwest of Jonsdorf is the Nonnenfelsen. Directly at the rock cliffs, a restaurant opens its doors. Here, there is also a great viewing platform and climbing opportunities. An ideal excursion destination.

Tracing Centuries and Millennia

Visitors from all over the world are drawn to the Zittau Lenten veils. The Great Zittau Lenten Veil measures 56 square meters and dates back to 1472. It is on display in the "Church of the Holy Cross" and depicts the biblical story in 90 images. Another highlight is a ride on the narrow-gauge railway. For 125 years, this railway has led right into the Zittau Mountains. The steam locomotive departs daily from Zittau station, passing through Olbersdorf to Jonsdorf and Oybin. On the second weekend of August, the Zittau Narrow Gauge Railway Festival takes place, featuring the Lückendorf Mountain Race and a large vintage car show. The millstone quarries house rock formations left over from the quarrying of millstones. The quarries have become a very popular hiking and climbing destination. You can also participate in a guided hike. Impressive nature can also be experienced on Mount Oybin. It is located next to a monastery ruin of the Celestine order from the 14th century. Knight games are regularly held here. In the spa town of Jonsdorf, the Weaver's Workshop is one of the most famous demonstration workshops for weaving. Here, you can get an insight into this traditional craft. In the historic walls of the former "Salt House" in Zittau, you can taste what our ancestors must have eaten. However, the fasting rules that were in effect at that time were cleverly circumvented in this house. Upper Lusatian dishes, juices, or beer are available at the inn "Zum Alten Sack" in Zittau. In a former horse stable, local delicacies are served. You can also experience Zittau's history and culinary specialties at the "Dornspachhaus," built in 1553. It is the oldest original house preserved for citizens of the city. The Upper Lusatian traditional dish "Dicke Rippe" is served here, as well as "Schlesisches Himmelreich" and "Biehmsche Gulasch." The cuisine of Upper Lusatia is influenced by Bohemian, Sorbian, and Silesian flavors. Potatoes are considered the staple food. The so-called Mauke (mashed potatoes) is particularly popular. A culturally significant building is the Herrnhut Brethren's Unity. This was founded in 1722 by Protestant refugees from Moravia. Here, the Brethren's Unity was re-established in 1727 and continues to operate as an Evangelical Free Church to this day. A cemetery established three years later, with its over 6,000 gravestones, is a cultural monument worth seeing in the region.

Great Mountains, Easy Access

The Zittau Mountains are located in the south of the Görlitz district. The town of Zittau is situated right on the edge of the Zittau Mountains Nature Park. Within the mountains themselves are the towns of Jonsdorf, Oybin, Lückendorf, and Waltersdorf. In the region of the Upper Lusatian Highlands, there are numerous opportunities to rent beautiful vacation apartments or homes. Getting to the apartment or house is straightforward. By car, you can take the A4 or A13 highways from Dresden and drive to Bautzen East. Then, continue on the B6 towards Löbau and on the B178 towards Zittau. Alternatively, you can drive via the B96 towards Oppach and then towards Zittau. The "Zittau Mountains" are signposted relatively early. If you are coming from the north, take the A13 or A15 via Cottbus. After the Roggosen junction, continue on the B115 to Niesky. The country road will take you to Löbau and then on the B178 to Zittau. If you prefer to reach your affordable accommodation by train, you can comfortably travel to Zittau station. From there, you can continue by taxi, bus, or narrow-gauge railway.
